In 6 pictures: Kia PH launches PV5

MANILA: Kia Philippines, under ACMobility, has introduced the all-new PV5 all-electric commercial vehicle. 

The said model is based on the brand’s E-GMP.S platform, which is Hyundai Group’s (Hyundai, Kia, Genesis) dedicated platform for purpose-built vehicles (PBV). Another model that utilizes this platform is the much larger PV7 sold in other markets.

Notably, the PV5 is the brand’s first-ever all-electric utility vehicle for the Philippines. It is positioned to attract fleet operators who are in need of emissions-free logistics platforms.

Vehicle specifications

The sole variant of the all-new Kia PV5 for the local market is the Cargo variant. Propelling the model is a single permanent magnet synchronous motor capable of producing up to 160 horsepower (hp) and 250 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. 

Its electric motor pairs with a 51.1-kilowatt-hour battery, providing a range of 384 kilometers (km) according to the New European Driving Cycle. 

Topping up the model is done via an alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) port. When using its DC port, the PV5 can increase its state-of-charge from 10-80 percent in just 30 minutes. 

Appearance-wise, the Kia PV5 adopts a sleek van body shape that resembles a miniaturized version of the PV7. It gets a stubby front nose with hefty-looking bumpers, S-shaped LED daytime running lamps, and LED multi-focal reflector headlamps. 

From the side, the Cargo variant has windows only for its front row. Otherwise, it comes with ample black plastic claddings on its wheel arches, a right-hand side sliding door, and a set of 16-inch steel wheels (w/ cover). Over to the rear are vertically oriented LED taillights and a dual-swing rear door.

Inside the Kia PV5 is a two-seater cabin equipped with a single-zone automatic air-conditioning, a 12.9-inch infotainment display, 7.5-inch digital gauge, cloth/leather seats, a tilt and telescopic steering column, smart key fob, USB Type-C charging ports, and a two-piece speaker set - among others. 

Notably, the said infotainment display has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bluetooth connectivity and voice recognition. 

Safety-wise, the model gets both passive and active features. On the passive side, it has dual front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, anti-lock braking, stability control, downhill control, hill-start assist control, and an anti-theft system. 

Its active lineup of advanced driver-assist systems includes the following: 

• Advanced smart cruise control
• Autonomous emergency braking
• Forward collision avoidance assist
• Lane following assist
• Lane keep assist
• Parking distance warning
• Safety camera
• Automatic headlamps
• Driver attention warning

Price-wise, the newly launched Kia PV5 Cargo is set at P2.098 million. The said price comes together with an eight-year or 180,000-kilometer warranty, whichever comes first.

This is paired with a five-year or 150,000-kilometer vehicle warranty and a 24/7 roadside assistance package.
