GCOTY hails Kia PV5 as 2027 German Compact Car of the Year

MANILA: Kia has placed another feather to its cap as the PV5 has been recognized as the German Compact Car of the Year 2027.

The latest honor follows the string of awards that the brand received, among them are:

• 2026 International Van of the Year (IVOTY)
• 2026 Red Dot Design Award winner

Following the recognition, the nameplate becomes one of the finalists for the overall GCOTY 2027 title that will be announced later come end of October. The other models that will vie for the top position are:

• Volkswagen ID. Polo
• Mercedes-Benz GLC
• Xpeng X9
• Hyundai Ioniq 6 N

The PV5 is the brand’s third electric vehicle to secure a win in the GCOTY category—the first two being the EV6 for its German Premium Car of the Year win in 2022 and the EV9’s German Luxury Car of the Year 2024 title.

Wearing the dedicated EV platform (Electric-Global Modular Platform for Service) platform—was designed from the outset for electrification, space efficiency and adaptability. Together with its modular body system, the model can accommodate different upper-body configurations around a common structural base to serve personal and business use cases.

This can be had in the following configurations:

• Passenger
• Cargo
• Chassis Cab configurations

This award reinforces our vision of creating more integrated and adaptable mobility solutions that help customers improve productivity and unlock new possibilities in their daily operations,” Kia Executive Vice President and PBV Business Division Head Sangdae Kim mentioned.

Depending on model and specification, the Kia PV5 has the capability to cover up to 416 kilometers. Its battery can be juiced up from from 10–80 percent in around 30 minutes.

In a statement, the Kia noted the recognition significance, saying that the PV5's GCOTY recognition validates the brand’s “PBV strategy, which integrates modular product design, connected services and dedicated manufacturing.”

“As the first model in Kia's expanding PBV lineup, the PV5 establishes the foundation for increasingly adaptable and integrated mobility solutions, with the PV7 planned for 2027 and the PV9 to follow in 2029,” it added.
