National Road Safety Training
TMA, in partnership with DOTr, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, conducted the National Road Safety Training in late May.
Per TMA, the training was for the members, drivers, operators, and mechanics of the Lungsod Silangan Transport Service & Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Antipolo, Rizal.
According to the association, the training focused on strengthening awareness and practical understanding of road safety and vehicle operation among transport sector stakeholders.
Modern PUV standards, vehicle safety features and operations, preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, pre-drive vehicle inspection, and fuel eco-driving practices were among the topics discussed.
TMA focused on three key pillars, supporting the National Road Safety Campaign framework:
Delivering capacity-building training on standards and safety
Supporting vehicle inspection and validation awareness
Promoting information and advocacy under the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Every driver, operator, manufacturer, and stakeholder have a role in creating safer roads and more reliable transport services. Through initiatives like this, we hope to empower transport communities with practical knowledge that can help improve both vehicle readiness and driving discipline in everyday operations,” TMA President Robert Carlos was quoted as saying.
Also present during the activity was LTFRB Executive Director Attorney Sherwin Vizconde, who recognized the value of continued collaboration between government and industry in extending road safety education directly to transport operators and drivers.
“We are thankful to TMA for taking part in this year’s National Road Safety Campaign and for helping extend road safety education directly to transport cooperatives and drivers. Programs like this demonstrate how collaboration between government and the private sector can create meaningful outcomes for the transport sector and contribute to building a stronger culture of safety on our roads,” he said.
National Road Safety Summit
TMA also participated in the National Road Safety Summit, which gathered government agencies, transport groups, automotive associations, private sector organizations, and road safety advocates to showcase initiatives and strengthen collective action toward achieving safer and more sustainable mobility nationwide.
During the event, TMA staged an exhibit to introduce attendees to the role of commercial vehicle manufacturers in promoting safer transport operations and highlighted the importance of continuous driver education, proper vehicle maintenance, as well as industry-government collaboration.
The exhibit also served as an opportunity to engage transport stakeholders and summit participants on how road safety extends beyond vehicle technology and into daily operational practices and shared accountability across the transport ecosystem.
“As TMA continues to support initiatives that promote safer mobility, the association remains committed to working alongside government and industry partners to advance programs that strengthen transport safety, improve operational standards, and create long-term value for Filipino communities,” the organization stated.
