BYD to electrify truck segment in PH too?

MANILA: BYD might be looking to electrify the country’s heavy-duty commercial vehicle segment as the Land Transportation Office has released homologation papers for the Q3 — a 10-wheeler electric truck from the Chinese automaker. 

Per the documents approved by the country’s land transport bureau, the BYD Q3 will have the below powertrain specifications: 

Battery type	Lithium iron phosphate
Maximum electric power (in horsepower)	697
Maximum speed (in kilometers per hour)	89
Maximum range (in kilometers)	350
Charging time (in minutes)	45 (using a direct current charger)

In addition, LTO shared that the BYD Q3 approved for the Philippine market has the following measurements: 

• Overall length: 7,650 millimeters (mm)
• Overall width: 2,540 mm
• Overall height: 3,250 mm
• Wheelbase: 4,600 mm 
• Ground clearance: 220 mm 

Further, the BYD Q3 will wear 22.5-inch wheels shod in 295/80 series tires. 

According to the paperwork, the emissions-free heavy-duty truck head is capable of carrying three occupants, which includes one driver and two passengers. Its net capacity is rated at 210 kilograms.

Other electric trucks in PH 

Like BYD, some commercial truck makers are also looking to be among the first brands to offer emissions-free options to many Filipino fleet owners and operators.

Hyundai County Electric, Mighty Electric 

The two models were introduced by Hariphil Asia Resources Incorporated sometime in May, at the Hyundai Truck and Bus Mobility Expo. 

Isuzu N-Series concept electric

In the ninth edition of the Philippine International Motor Show held last year, Isuzu Philippines Corporation previewed the N-Series EV Concept Truck. 

Foton Tornado EV 

The Foton Tornado EV is a full-electric light-duty truck powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor with an 81.14 kilowatt-hour battery.
