First-ever ‘BYD Grab Day Caravan’ puts spotlight on Seal 5 DM-i

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines and Grab Philippines have launched their first-ever tie-up event following the forging of the two brand’s collaboration late last year.

Jointly, the ACMobility-led automotive distributor and superapp marque conducted the inaugural BYD Grab Day Caravan at the Global City dealership last month, which, according to the former, marked a significant step in making electrified and sustainable mobility more accessible to Filipinos.

In a statement, BYD Cars Philippines said that the initiative boosts the global brand’s mission to grow the reach of electric and hybrid vehicles nationwide.

“By equipping GrabCar driver-partners with BYD’s advanced electrified models, the partnership enables everyday commuters to experience the comfort, efficiency, and sustainability of electric mobility firsthand, one ride at a time. BYD’s New Energy Vehicles also enable GrabCar driver-partners to save up to 40 percent in operational and maintenance costs compared to regular combustion engine-driven cars, resulting in higher earnings from every drive,” the company noted.

“This partnership with Grab allows us to bring electrified mobility into everyday transport, making it more accessible to more Filipinos. It reflects our commitment to building a cleaner, more efficient transport ecosystem, one that meets real-world needs at scale,” BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director Bob Palanca said.

Spotlight on Seal 5 DM-i

Taking the center stage of the event is the entry-level trim of the BYD Seal 5 DM-i.

GrabCar driver-partners who attended the event were given the opportunity to test drive the Seal 5 DM-i Dynamic learn about its features and the exclusive deals from bank partners — with convenient on-site application processing.

“The BYD Grab Day Caravan allows us to bring our electrified vehicles directly to the people who can benefit from them the most. It’s a great opportunity for GrabCar drivers to see and experience how the Seal 5 DM-i Dynamic delivers the kind of efficiency, comfort, and reliability that ride-hailing services demand every day,” BYD Philippines Country Head Adam Hu said.

For his part, Grab Philippines Managing Director Ronald Roda welcomed the co-operation between them and BYD.  “Through this collaboration, we aim to provide our drivers and operators the best opportunities to earn more and save more with BYD electrified vehicles while at the same time being responsible partners toward a greener and more sustainable mobility,” Roda explained.

Moreover, the public can expect more BYD Grab Day Caravans to be rolled out in strategic locations across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao within the third quarter of 2025.

Powering the BYD Seal 5 DM-i is a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, which serves as a generator (commonly known as “range extender”) for the permanent magnet synchronous motor that has a peak churn of:

The abovementioned trim’s powertrain is mated to an 8.3-kilowatt-hour Blade battery that gives the vehicle an emissions-free range of 50 kilometers but with the range extender in play, up to 1,175 kilometers.

BYD Cars Philippines expressed firm belief that with its large size, spacious and comfortable interiors, low operating costs, and once-a-year preventive maintenance scheduling, the Seal 5 DM-i Dynamic is a compelling choice for Transport Networks Vehicle Service operators and drivers.
