BYD Dolphin

The BYD Dolphin has a beautiful cabin. The legroom is ample across both rows. The dashboard gets an attractive touch with whirlpool like AC vents in the side and round in the center. The flat-bottom steering wheel has control buttons to reduce distractions.

The dashboard is beautifully laid out with dual screens, one for the driver’s console and the other for the infotainment system, which is a large 12.8-inch unit. The boost space at the rear is a large 345 litre in volume, though folding the rear seats down will give you a massive 1,310 litres.

The seats are done in leather upholstery. The driver’s seat is 6-ways manual adjustable, while the front passenger gets a 4-way manual adjusting seats. The air-conditioning system is automatic, along with the addition of LED indoor LED lights.

The BYD Dolphin has a stylish appearance that mixes contemporary aesthetics with usefulness. It is perfect for travelling through congested city streets due to its small size. It comes in dual-tone colour and a unique style 16-inch alloy wheels. The front is flanked by a minimal bumper with sleep headlamps. The rear has a combination tail light structure, with a stop lamp passing along the width of the car. The car is 4,070 mm in length, which indicates a huge boot space.

In contrast to other electric cars, the BYD Dolphin gives off a feeling of steadiness and presence on the road, comparable to a bigger car. It has a rigid suspension, similar to any ICE, that is MacPherson Struts and Torsion beams. The battery blade is designed for optimum heating and cooling too, ensuring that you don’t face any discomfort while driving.

The BYD Dolphin is powered by an AC permanent magnet synchronous motor and a 44.9 kWh BYD Blade Battery LFP battery pack. This motor produces a maximum power of 95 hp and a peak torque of 180 Nm. This ensures that the EV can go up to a top speed of 130 kmph, which is decent for an EV of this price. Also, the acceleration is quite brisk, hitting 50 kmph in just 3.9 seconds.

The engine is front-set and power is sent to the front wheels, which ensures a smooth drive, wherever you take it. The battery takes just 30 mins to charge from 30% to 80% with a DC point, while regular AC charging takes 7-8 hours for a full 0-100% charging cycle.

The BYD Dolphin is an excellent electric car to be had at the price, especially considering the fact that the EV marketing in the Philippines is not saturated yet and the competition is low. The Dolphin gets its competition in the form of the formidable Nissan Leaf, and the cheaper Jeteor Ice Cream EV.
