MG 4 EV

Unlike the exterior, which has a lot of visual drama going all around its design, the interior of the MG4 EV has a relatively cleaner and fuss-free layout. The all-black layout of the MG4 EV features black leather upholstery with fabric cloth inserts in the Lux variant, making the cabin feel upmarket for its price.

The cabin layout of the MG4 EV feels vibrant and youthful with a unique-looking flat-bottom multi-functional steering wheel and a standalone 7-inch full-TFT rectangular screen for the instrument console behind it. Even the centre console here gets a large and tilted 10.25-inch rectangular touchscreen infotainment system with angularly-placed buttons below it.

While there is a sleek layer housing slim AC vents running in the middle of the dashboard, the lower centre console here has a floating design, while accommodating the drive mode controller and wireless charging pad. The minimalist but new-age cabin of the MG4 EV is further equipped with modern features like a 6-speaker audio system with 3D sound, a powered driver’s seat, heated front seats, automatic climate control and a heated steering wheel.

Being a new-age all-electric vehicle, the MG4 EV has a bold and striking design, with lots of creases and angles all over its body. The striking design of the MG4 EV makes it the most dynamic-looking vehicle from MG’s entire global lineup and is intended to attract the younger set of car-buying audience.

The front profile of the MG4 EV looks extremely edgy with the presence of a sloping bonnet with prominent curves and side bulges, which flow down towards the clean and closed grille for the fascia. The corners of the front fascia of the MG4 EV are occupied by sharp and sleek-looking all-LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The edginess of the front profile continues with the angular design for the front bumper, which has inverted L-shaped air curtains with gloss black highlights and an aggressive-looking split air dam in the middle.

The side profile of the MG4 EV also looks dynamic, with the all-electric hatchback having split curves on the frontal and rear parts of the side profile. The front splitter of the car extends towards the side, aligning with side curtains which end up with aerodynamic recesses in the rear doors. The door-mounted powered and heated rearview mirrors, 17-inch machined aero alloy wheels and a prominent bulge over the rear fender which also houses a part of the combination tail lamps.

The rear profile of the MG4 EV gives the all-electric hatchback a very sporty vibe, thanks to the edgy and protruding X-themed LED combination tail lamps which also come with an LED connecting light bar with a cross-hatch design effect between them. The angular impression of the rear profile is further enhanced by a sporty-looking roof-mounted spoiler with a brake lamp and an edgy-looking rear bumper.

Following the dynamism of its styling, the MG4 EV feels equally dynamic to drive, with its low slung stance and large 17-inch wheels adding to the overall sporty driving behaviour. However, the steering lacks the feedback at times and feels artificial at higher speeds. There are five driving modes on offer in the MG4 EV – including eco, sport, snow, custom and standard, along with four regenerative braking modes – auto, 1,2 and 3.

Both the variants of the MG4 EV differ based on the battery and motor combinations offered in them. The base-spec Standard variant comes with a rear-mounted 125kW electric motor (170 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque) and a 51kWh battery pack, which claims a 350 km range. Meanwhile, the Lux variant has a rear-mounted 150kW electric motor (200 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque) and a 64kWh battery pack, which returns a maximum driving range of 435 km. The battery packs of both variants take 26 minutes to charge from 10-80% using a type-2 DC charger.

Heavily loaded with safety features, the MG4 EV features six airbags, ABS with EBD, a tyre pressure monitoring system, an electronic stability program, a hill launch assist, reverse parking sensors and 360-degree parking camera. The long list of ADAS features offered in the MG4 EV are adaptive cruise control, active emergency braking with pedestrian and bicycle detection, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, traffic jam assist, intelligent speed limit assist with traffic sign recognition, intelligent high beam assist, driver attention alert, blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert and door opening warning.

With very dynamic styling, a minimalist but new-age cabin with plenty of features and potent powertrain options, the MG4 EV is one of the most worthy new-age all-electric offerings, which should be on the priority list of first-time electric car buyers.
