MG 3

Though all the cars that MG produces are cheap and go easy on one's pocket but the interior quality is no way compromised by the company. MG 3 is a spacious 5-seater thanks to its impressive wheelbase figures and it is stuffed with some cozy and comforting seats that come wrapped in fabric in all variants except on the top where its comes covered in PVC material. Increasing the comfort level are 6-way manually adjustable driver's seat and 4-way manual adjustable passenger seat. Driver's arena gets an analogues binnacle with leather steering wheel (top variant). The storage part is also taken good care of by two cup holders, toll charge card slot, coin storage pocket, and sunglass stowage box. As for the boot space, MG 3 has a capacity of 256 liters that can further increase by its 60/40 split rear seat.

The exterior front is very appealing and stylish; from front to rear MG 3 is a true reflector of British legacy. Taking figuratively the car measures 4018mm in length, 1728 mm is width and 1517 mm in height. With a 2520 mm of wheelbase, MG 3 guarantees a spacious cabin area. The front profile gets a sleek yet stylish grille that connects very well with its LED headlamps with daytime running lights. The black-toned A-pillar gives its windshield a rounded look and the same black tone is continued over B and C pillars. On to the side are present well-crafted wheel arches that house 14-inch steel wheels in 1.3L trim and 15-inch alloy wheels in the 1.5L variant. In addition are present, body colored door handles, indicator equipped ORVM and smart aerodynamic cut outs. The rear end gets long roof connected taillights, rear sport valance and chrome tailpipe in some higher end variants. Also, all the trims come equipped with solar reducing windscreen and heated door mirrors.

When MG 3 was initially introduced in the Philippines, the car was only offered with a 1.3L NSE petrol mill. The said mill produced maximum power of 89 hp at 6000 rpm along with a peak torque of 118 Nm at 5000 rpm. The power is transferred to its front wheel through the 5-speed semi-automatic transmission system that allows the car to move from 0 to 100 km/h mark in 10.9 seconds, after attending the top speed of 172 km/h. Next up, is a 1.5 VCT NSE mill that is more powerful and produces 104 hp at 6000 rpm and 135 Nm at 4500 rpm. It is available in both 5-speed automatic and manual gearbox that helps it getting to the 100 km/h mark from naught in 10.9 seconds. The said mill displays an efficient fuel economy of 21 kmph.

MG 3 has obtained a 3-star safety rating in the EURO NCAP tests that may create some doubts in the mind of consumers. But the car is stuffed with all the essential safety gears like driver and front passenger seatbelt reminder, front airbags as standard and side and curtain airbags in top variant (1.5 LUX AMT). The car is also safe for kids as it comes with rear ISOFIX child fitting. Other standard safety systems include high mount stop lamp, rear PDC audible sounder, fuel pump inertial remember switch and vehicle immobilizer. As for the baking and handling part, MG 3 comes with front disc and rear drum brakes that are tuned perfectly with front Mcpherson and rear Torsion Beam suspension. Further, it’s the ABS+EBD and BAS with CBC system that improves MG 3 handling by manifold.

Verdict

MG 3 is a low budget car that holds all the basic comforting and safety features, proving its worth at every point. Another good thing about it is its two different engine options that give customers options to choose from. The only drawback is its low economy rating that may hurt your pocket.
