MG One Review 2025
Abhishek Katariya says
Manufactured by SAIC Motor, the parent brand of MG, the all-new MG One is one of the latest-generation products from the Chinese-owned British brand. The MG One is the first all-new product to be based on the SAIC’s new SIGMA architecture and adopts the third-generation family design language introduced for MG products for the near future. The MG One is being offered in the Philippines car market in two variants – Standard and Luxury, and in five colour options – Red, Orange, Blue, Gray, White, and Black.
MG One Interior & Features
On the inside too, the MG One has a very striking layout for the dashboard, with the interior having a host of modern elements and features making the MG One a youthful-looking car on the inside. The all-black leather upholstery on offer has a choice of contrasting yellow and blue highlights and other premium materials for an immersive experience on the inside.
The highlight of the cabin of the MG One is its driver’s cockpit, which is a combination of a two-spoke steering wheel with flattened upper and lower edges gloss black inserts for the spokes, and a wide and open-flip-designed housing for the 12.3-inch screens for the instrument console and touchscreen infotainment system, the latter of which faces towards the driver.
Amplifying the sporty and youthful appearance of the cabin of the MG One are the dual-tone sports seats with colour-coded accents. While the co-driver side of the dashboard has a rectangular layer with integrated AC vents in it, the lower centre console has a trapezoidal cluster for AC vents and controls for the multi-zone automatic climate control. The cabin further looks premium with feel-good features like ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a 6-speaker Arkamys audio system, cruise control, a powered driver’s seat, a wireless charging pad, rear AC vents, and an air purifier.
MG One Exterior
Designed on the lines of the new third-generation family design language, the new MG One is the boldest and freshest-looking SUV from MG’s current lineup of compact and midsize SUVs. The aggressive-looking form, especially at the front, and the contemporary lines on the side and rear make the MG One an eye-catching design.
At the front, the MG One has a huge and aggressive-looking grille, which has sharp-looking arrowhead-shaped inserts finished in a theme of dark chrome. The headlamps placed on the sides of this bold-looking fascia have LED projectors and sleek-looking three-bar daytime running LEDs within them. The aggressiveness of the MG One is further increased by sleek T-shaped air curtains on the corners of the front bumper and the muscular contours flowing over the bonnet.
The side profile of the MG One looks athletic with the smooth contours flowing over the rounded-rectangular wheel arches, door-mounted rearview mirrors, and a layered design for the window waistline at the bottom of the C-pillar. The wheel arches and bottom part of the door panels come with slim body cladding, while the alloy wheels on offer (18-inch on the Standard and 19-inch in the Luxury variants) further amplify the striking appeal of the side profile of the MG One.
At the back, the MG One has a highly-raked windscreen with a sporty-looking spoiler with an integrated brake light above it. The MG One also has LED Delta Glow tail lamps with modern-looking LED inserts within them, while the central part of the boot lid has a large trapezoidal housing for the license plate. The central part of the rear bumper has a thick-looking silver skid plate, giving the overall rear profile a rugged appearance.
MG One Ride & Handling
The MG One drives as spiritedly as it looks, with the premium compact SUV getting a sport-tuned suspension setup comprising multiple links at the front and rear. The 19-inch alloy wheels add to the dynamism of the overall driving experience, however, the ride quality can feel a bit stiffer at times.
MG One Engine & Fuel Consumption
A youthful-looking car like the MG One has got a youthful engine at its heart – a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Paired with a CVT, this turbo-petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 182 PS and a peak torque output of 285 Nm, making it one of the most powerful 1.5-litre petrol engines on offer today. With a 0-100 kmph sprint timing of 8.5 seconds, the engine impresses with its responsiveness. However, the CVT can feel lazy at times, especially during aggressive throttling for overtaking purposes.
MG One Braking & Safety
For an SUV of its segment, the MG One is nicely equipped with premium safety features like six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, cornering brake control, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, hill hold assist, hill descent control, auto hold, reverse parking sensors, and 360-degree parking camera. It also gets a few ADAS features like blind spot detection, lane departure warning, front collision warning, intelligent headlamp control, adaptive cruise control, and E-Call.
MG One Verdict
Among all the MG products on sale right now, MG One scripts a new future for MG and its products, with the word ‘dynamism’ written all over it – whether it is its looks or the way it rides and performs.
The MG ONE dual-tone sports seats amplify the interior accents of the car and are carefully designed with premium materials for a comfortable journey, with plenty of legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers along with a large trunk capacity of up to 1120L. The flexible use of space in MG ONE offers easy access to different storage needs. The audio and vehicle information are optimally placed for easy operation, and the screen automatically adjusts to surrounding light conditions. The Ambient lighting delivers an emotional atmosphere and ties together exterior and interior lighting conditions for the driver for decreased levels of driving fatigue.
