Mazda has consistently offered world-class cars to make a different mark in the market. Among its wide range of models, one such car that has managed to win a lot of appreciation is Mazda 3, which is available in hatchback and sedan versions in the local market. The 2017 updated brings a lot of enhancements in the car in terms of performance, comfort and features that helps in competing against the likes of Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Corolla Altis. Mazda 3 is not only good on papers, it has achieved a lot of accolades to prove its metal. Last year, it grabbed four trophies in Philippine CAr of the Year Awards. The same excitement and reliability is ensured in the 2017 model and to find out what exactly has changed in the new version, head on the below sections.

    Interior & Features

Where the exterior is focused to give a wide stance, the interiors were worked upon to feature better fit and finish. There is no doubt that Mazda 3 was not offering up class feel in accordance to the segment, they have improved it to the next level. Mazda 3 dons an entirely new centre console that is fitted with bold controls and covered with leather in-between till the armrest. You still get a Command Controller rotary knob but, the mechanical parking brake is replaced with electric that further makes room for two cup holders. The steering wheel has also received minute changes and features thicker spokes along with larger controls. The accents on the dashboard and AC vents are darker and the power window buttons are covered with piano black bezels. The instrument cluster is carried forward from the 2016 model while the rest of the cabin is still at a premium. With an all-black premium leather covering the cabin is easy to maintain but, the claustrophobic rear is still something that can be worked upon.

Mazda’s KODO: Soul of Motion design philosophy has already established a remarkable mark and the 2017 Mazda 3 represents it in the purest form. Although there are no major changes over the 2016 version, the prominent base is nicely enhanced by sleek and aerodynamic lines all over the body. There is a new signature five-point grille between the sharp headlights that clearly defines that the car is evolved for something extraordinary. Further giving it a modern touch are present the chrome accents and LED lighting that grabs the attention of the onlookers instantly. The front bumper, air dams, and fog lights are kept unchanged while the rear profile is also very much similar to the outgoing model. The dimensions are also unchanged for both the versions and measures as 4580 mm X 1555 mm X 1450 mm for the sedan. Whereas, the hatchback variant is proportioned as 4460 mm X 1555 mm X 1450 mm (L X W X H). The wheelbase of both the versions is counted as 2770 mm. Further complementing the overall design are present 16/17-inch alloy wheels depending on the trim.

    Engine & Fuel Consumption

The SKYACTIV engine is designed to maximize the torque without hampering the fuel efficiency. What helps the new Mazda 3 in achieving this is the G-Vectoring control that is standard across all the variants. The power of the engine can be felt with just a little push on the throttle and the smooth transmission further makes the overall experience even better. There are two engine options available in the local market which include a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder unit that delivers 110 PS of maximum power and 144 Nm of peak torque. The more exciting one is the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that is capable of delivering a maximum power output of 153 PS and peak torque of 200 Nm. Both these engines are coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode. To improve the fuel efficiency, the engine is further backed by i-STOP (idling Stop System).

    Braking Safety

The braking system of the car consists of Ventilated Discs with Red Paint Calipers at the front and Solid Discs with Red Paint Calipers at the rear. It is further supported by Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution System (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). The Mazda 3 is also a host of a number of safety features which include 6-airbags, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Front Parking Sensors, Rear Parking Sensors, Seat Belt Warning Lamp, High-mount Stop Lamp and engine immobilizer.
