MANILA: Morris Garages (MG) Motor Philippines has tapped En Tsumugi End-of-Life-Vehicle (ELV) Dismantling Corporation to responsibly dispose of electric vehicle (EV) units that were destroyed during a fire incident in 2025.

And while these were fitted with lithium-ion batteries, MG Motor Philippines claimed that the vehicle’s power supplies did not combust.

Safe, environmentally-responsible disposal of EV units
The partnership between MG Motor Philippines and En Tsumugi ELV Dismantling Corporation will result in the safe and environmentally responsible disposal of the abovementioned fire-affected EVs.
Per the carmaker’s local wing, high-voltage batteries require specialized handling and disposal procedures in compliance with global environmental standards. As such, the dismantling company will ensure that all the destroyed EVs are processed in a controlled and compliant manner, minimizing environmental impact while adhering to strict safety protocols.

“Through this partnership with En Tsumugi, we are ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to properly manage and dispose of affected EV units in a way that upholds the highest environmental and safety standards. This reflects our long-term commitment to responsible mobility in the Philippines,” he added.
Model EVL facility
En Tsumugi ELV Dismantling Corporation, located in Mexico, Pampanga, is recognized as the Philippines’ first model ELV dismantling facility.
It was formed as a pilot project by ELV dismantler Tsuruoka Corporation Limited and was financially supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, with technical assistance and guidance on business development provided by Toyota Motor Corporation and Mitsui & Company Limited.

“En Tsumugi remains committed to supporting safer, more sustainable end-of-life vehicle management aligned with emerging global environmental practices,” he added.
