iCAUR V27
Exterior
Ever wondered what you will get if you put all your favorite off-road SUVs in a pot? Well, it will probably be like the iCAUR V27, because onlookers—who might view it from different angles—could possibly mistake it for a Toyota Land Cruiser or a Land Rover Defender.
At the fore is a fascia that seems to borrow elements from the iconic British vehicle, such as the body-colored garnish above the grillework and the headlamps that combine a boxy housing and rounded LED lights.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaThe same can be said about its lower front bumper, which appears stocky and ready for anything that lies ahead. It also seems to have a skid plate-like appointment that will provide the SUV with front-end protection when conquering various obstacles.
Meanwhile, Japanese inspiration can be seen on the iCAUR V27’s sculpted hood and the flared wheel wells with cladding to protect the paint from scratches and loose road debris. Discreet protective garnish can also be observed on the lower portions of the door, just below the somewhat wide running boards. Unlike the smaller V23, it has regular door handles, which are to the author’s liking.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaHelping maintain design continuity are its large, squarish windows and side mirrors. It also has roof rails that flank the roof, which has humps that follow the bulge on the iCAUR V27’s bonnet. The said humps have glass-like trims that let some natural light into the cabin. These, however, are not your typical sunroof and are fixed appointments, so it’s understandable if the glass roof is tinted.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaThe vehicle rides on either 19- or 21-inch wheels shod in 255/55 or 255/45-series tires. The wheel looks like it was designed with aesthetics and aerodynamics in mind, but slapping some Black Rhino Volls or Saharas on it paired with all-terrain tires would make it look nicer.
Moving on to the rear, the SUV comes with a roof-mounted spoiler and a decent-sized rear glass. Mounted on its side-opening rear door is a spare tire. The tailgate is bordered by squircle-shaped taillamps, likely another homage to the English SUV.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaThe rear bumper echoes the design cues of the one at the front and also comes with a protective plate. Surprisingly (because not many Filipino SUV owners use their vehicles to tow trailers), the iCAUR V27 comes with a tow hook. This could be suggestive of the vehicle’s capabilities, which we will know in due time.
Interior
The iCAUR V27 sports a rather luxurious cabin with an abundance of leather upholstery and branded tech.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaFirst, the driver is presented with a three-spoke, multi-functional steering wheel—swathed in leather, of course. Behind it is a column-mounted gear lever and controls for the lights and wipers.
Past these is a digital instrument cluster that displays relevant information like the selected gear, the speed, and the tire pressure. It is also worth noting that the unit we photographed—which had a brown interior—had a digital instrument panel that matched the interior motif.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaThe same can be said for the infotainment system, which displayed the car with a sandy background. And while it matters little, having a cohesive cabin is undoubtedly aesthetically satisfying.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaPresent are switches under the central display, which means that operation of the air conditioning system can be done using these tactile controls. For added convenience, there is also a wireless charger.
It has a center console for keeping daily carry items, as well as cubbies to make sure one’s things are organized.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaFor in-car audio, the iCAUR V27 gets Pioneer-branded speakers. This will be good for those occupying the second row, also treated with leather and has a pull-down armrest with cup holders for one’s beverages.
Easter eggs
The iCAUR V27 also has its fair share of easter eggs.
For one, the side of the dashboard—visible when the door is open—has the image of an off-roading SUV. It appears to be on the move to higher ground, which seems fitting for the electrified vehicle.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaThere is also visible Arabic writing on the side mirrors and what appears to be an out-of-place robot on the side steps of the SUV.
Future updates
The iCAUR V27 is yet to make its formal entry into the Philippine electrified off-road SUV segment, which means more details will be released by the brand as its official launch nears.
