iCAUR V23 stars in ‘Wuhu Drift’

MANILA: The iCAUR V23 stars in the movie “Wuhu Drift” alongside Cody Walker, brother of the late Fast and Furious franchise protagonist Paul Walker.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What makes the iCAUR V23's performance in Wuhu Drift unique for an electric SUV?

Unlike traditional low-slung drift sports cars, the all-electric, boxy iCAUR V23 performs high-intensity slides, urban pursuit sequences, and tight-space maneuvers alongside iconic sports cars like the Nissan GT-R R34 and Honda S2000. Additionally, iCAUR states that these stunts were performed practically without visual effects (VFX), relying strictly on the SUV's factory-stock powertrain and original chassis architecture.
  • How does the iCAUR V23 cater to vehicle customization for lifestyle and off-road use?

The V23 features a modular design with over 20 standardized mounting points located on the roof, dashboard, D-pillars, and chassis. It includes removable fender flares and a roof rack system capable of holding a static load of up to 200 kilograms, allowing owners to easily attach accessories such as roof tents, side ladders, and overlanding equipment without making permanent modifications to the vehicle's body structure.
  • Per the Chery-owned Chinese car brand, the boxy, all-electric off-roader drifts through narrow city streets alongside iconic performance cars such as the Nissan GT-R R34 and Honda S2000.

As such, iCAUR noted that the V23 “challenges conventional expectations of what an electric off-roader can do.”

    No VFX

iCAUR claims that the stunts and sequences where the V23 appears were “performed practically, without relying on visual effects” and relied only on its “factory-stock powertrain and original chassis architecture” to showcase its capabilities in an unconventional performance environment.

Throughout the film, the V23 is shown performing demanding maneuvers, including controlled slides through confined urban spaces, high-speed pursuit sequences, and close-formation driving.

“Drift culture has traditionally been associated with low-slung sports cars, short suspension setups, and a low center of gravity. Off-road SUVs (sport utility vehicle), meanwhile, are generally designed around a different set of priorities, including ground clearance, durability, passenger comfort, and versatility,” iCAUR wrote in a press release.

“‘Wuhu Drift’ places the iCAUR V23 in a setting that challenges those conventional expectations,” it added.

    Built for customization

Another feature highlighted is the iCAUR V23’s appearance in the short film is its penchant for personalization.

In the movie, the SUV has been fitted with external appointments like an oversized carbon-fiber racing wing, roof-mounted auxiliary lighting, side aero elements, a high-saturation geometric racing livery, white multi-spoke wheels, and a wide-body treatment. Whether they improve the vehicle’s actual performance or simply were slapped on for cinematic appeal, we may never know.

However, the company states that the modifications demonstrate the iCAUR V2’s modular approach to vehicle customization. Its front bumper, fender flares, and roof-rack system are designed to accommodate replacement components and accessories without requiring permanent alterations to the vehicle’s original structure.

The result, iCAUR pointed out, is a platform that can take on different identities depending on how its owner chooses to build it, which is actually something would-be Filipino owners might actually appreciate.

Speaking of builds, the iCAUR V23 is equipped with more than 20 standardized mounting points across areas including the roof, dashboard, D-pillars, and chassis. These can accommodate accessories such as roof racks, side ladders, crossbars, console mounts, and cargo systems.

For use in other endeavors outside drifting—like outdoor car camping, which is becoming popular among Filipino car owners—the roof rack, for example, can support a static load of up to 200 kilograms for bearing add-ons like roof tents, bicycle carriers, and side awnings.

The fender flares, too, are removable, allowing early adopters to adapt the vehicle’s appearance and tire setup for different driving environments.

Meanwhile, mounting points around the D-pillars can be used for overlanding equipment and other accessories, further expanding the iCAUR V23’s potential as a lifestyle-oriented vehicle.

“Rather than treating customization as an afterthought, the V23 incorporates it into the vehicle's design from the outset—giving owners a foundation that can evolve according to their individual needs and interests,” the company wrote.

    iCAUR V23 to debut AIMOGA

It is becoming common for incoming Chinese car brands to have their own “intelligent” system, luring car buyers into features that could sway them into purchasing their products—and iCAUR is no different.

The upcoming iCAUR V23 will debut AMIOGA, “a new generation of intelligent mobility technology designed to bring greater interaction between people, vehicles, and their surroundings.”

iCAUR provides only a vague description of AMIOGA, citing that it can become a platform for combining “mobility, technology, personalization, and lifestyle.” As to how it can do it, we will know when the SUV launches.

The iCAUR brand is set to enter the Philippine automotive market in October
