Rolls-Royce introduces Phantom Hummingbird

MANILA: Rolls-Royce has debuted the Phantom Hummingbird. This very special version of the Phantom was a private commission that was produced by the company’s Private Office Dubai - a very exclusive design studio that produces custom Rolls-Royce cars for high-net-worth clients. 

The said car is notable for being the first-ever Rolls-Royce to feature abalone shell marquetry. This pairs well with mother-of-pearl for a shimmering visual effect on the figure’s feathers. With abalone shell being what it is, it offers the artistic creation an iridescent blue-green hue that changes under lighting. 

As Rolly-Royce shared, the marquetry is presented on three different interior panels. One on the car’s folding picnic table was hewn out of 53 pieces of abalone shell and mother-of-pearl. The aforementioned goes with 18 more pieces for its wings. Meanwhile, 84 pieces are features on its rear seats.

A total of six iterations of the project were required before the final product. Each piece was meticulously ground into thin pieces, while laser-cutting was necessary to precisely produce the pieces’ final shape. 

Together with the marquetry, this very special one-off gets a nature-inspired exterior theme with a Wildberry lower body and White Sands upper body. Thanks to these, the car comes with a tasteful two-tone appearance with its colors separated by hand-painted White Sands Coachline. 

The British marque didn’t disclose who this car was made for, but it was revealed to be a private tribute from the client to his wife.

Rolls-Royce Phantom: specs

Specs-wise, Rolls-Royce didn’t say if the Hummingbird received any upgrades. As such, we can assume that it is still propelled by a 6.7-liter V12 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. At maximum, the said mill can produce up to 563 horsepower and 900 Newton-meters of torque. 

Ride quality of this luxury car is provided by the Flagbearer System - a dynamic suspension system that adjusts damping to provide optimized ride comfort and stability. The model also gets four-wheel steering, silent-seal tires, and a meticulously insulated body that blocks outside noises.

• Massaging seats with ventilation
• Power footrests
• Umbrella compartments

Safety-wise, the Phantom mainly depends on active cruise control, collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane change assist - among others. The model also gets a Night Vision Assist system and a 360-degree view camera.
