Here’s why this family only buys Toyotas

For most families, having one or two cars stowed in their garage is more than enough. Miguel Furagganan and his family, however, have gone all in on Toyota vehicles in such a way that their household parking spaces already come close to a car meet.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Why does the Furagganan family own so many Toyota vehicles?

The Furagganan family continues to choose Toyota primarily because of the brand’s reputation for reliability, distinctive designs, and strong aftermarket support.
  • When did the Furagganan family’s connection with Toyota begin?

The family’s storied connection with Toyota started with Alvin Furagganan’s first personal vehicle, a 1991 Corolla “Small Body.”
  • Currently, the family’s garage includes a Toyota Fortuner GR-S, Toyota Zenix, several generations of the Corolla Altis, a Corolla Altis GR-S, a Corolla “Love Life,” and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J120.

“When people pass by, they would think that there’s a meetup or Toyota Club,” Alvin Furagganan explained. “But really, it’s just us family getting together.”

So, this begs the question; why does this family keep on choosing Toyota?

    Where it started

Alvin Furagganan and his family’s deep trust towards Toyota began with his first-ever personal ride; a 1991 Corolla. This is what the enthusiast crowd here in the Philippines knows as the “Small Body.”

For second-generation Furagganan, the aforementioned car never let him down, never left him stranded helpless on the side of the road. And yes, we all know about the tales surrounding the Corolla and its penchant for indestructibility. But here, with Furagganan’s own personal account, it is as real as it gets.

Notably, this is where Furagganan’s love for the brand started. And until today, he says that he and his family still continue to choose Toyota as it is a car company that has long since established itself for its reliability.

Another Furagganan family member from a much younger generation also has strong links with the Toyota Corolla. For him, his own car was given by his grandmother, a doctor who also used to drive the very same 12th-generation Corolla (Altis) for her rounds. Nowadays, the young man daily drives this particular Toyota sedan and prefers it for its comfort, looks, and reliability.

    Common theme: reliability

One thing is obvious, the Furagganan family likes Toyotas simply because they are reliable.

Going back to Alvin Furagganan, he also owns a 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J120. It already has 140,000 kilometers on its odometer, and it is still very much alive and used regularly to this day. It does have some modifications, but the only things he does to keep it in tiptop shape are regular oil changes and brake cleaning…that’s it.

On one hand, reliability doesn’t really mean old-fashioned. Furagganan’s example is their very own Toyota Zenix hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). They acquired the said model pre-owned, and regardless, he and his family chose it because it represents Toyota as an expert innovator in the realm of hybrid powertrains and electrified mobility as a whole.

This boils down to the fact that the Japanese marque has spent years researching and developing this technology. As such, prospective adopters can take confidence in its implementation, as seen in expert innovations like the Zenix HEV.

Additionally, Toyota has an established dealership network all around the country. These outlets are one-stop shops staffed by highly capable technicians with the expertise and parts in stock to offer exactly what a customer needs.

Moreover, Toyota’s facilities nationwide go beyond mere buildings where one buys a car. They offer genuine customer support and real connections with vehicle owners.

    Design: bucking the trend

But apart from reliability, the Furagannan family made the Toyota choice due to the simple fact that the brand’s vehicles have a clear, distinct identity. This is a contrast to many other cars on the road today with designs that somewhat have become…samey.

Toyota, in the family’s opinion, has practically bucked trendy design cues with examples such as the current version of the Camry and the very striking but highly innovative bZ4X battery electric vehicle (BEV).

    A blank canvas for mods

Toyotas are likewise heavily appreciated by the Furagganans due to their “moddability.” These cars are practically blank canvases with plenty of aftermarket support and compatible parts from globally known tuning and performance marques.

The young Miguel Furagganan himself fitted his Corolla Altis with Supra wheels and a lowered stance. These go together with tints for its windows and sunroof.

More than just a family garage

To sum it all up, the Furagganan family’s lineup of cars is more than just a collection in their garage. It reflects their family history and the unshakeable trust they have built in Toyota over the years. Reliability remains a key factor in their choice, and even as they look toward an electrified future, they have made it clear that their next EV will still wear a Toyota badge.

In that sense, the Furagganan family is not just looking back at their family’s Toyota-filled history. They are also looking ahead, ready to experience what the brand’s future has in store - a concrete vote of confidence in Toyota as their trusted brand.
