Would a Toyota GR Kart racing series work for PH?

MANILA: Gazoo Racing, the high-performance arm and motorsports division of Toyota Motor Corporation, has officially released its in-house-developed racing kart. 

Called the “GR Kart,” it is an entry-level model designed for children and families. And by being designed as such to be more affordable, easier to transport, and easier to maintain. 

As demonstrated by the Toyota division, the GR Kart comes with a cleverly designed oil catch tank that allows one to store the said kart in an upright position. It was likewise provided with a float-chamber-free diaphragm carburetor and an appropriate fuel-filler opening that will minimize leaks when upright. 

Additionally, the GR Kart is narrow enough to fit in Toyota kei vehicles without needing to be disassembled. It also weighs a mere 83 kilograms, which is relatively light.

To reduce ownership hassles for a beginner, Gazoo Racing likewise opted for a belt-drive system instead of the messy chain that requires oil. The said belt also comes with its own automatic tensioner. 

Moreover, the entry-level racing kart was fitted with a built-in, self-charging battery to erase the need for mounting a secondary battery. The company even designed a new carburetor for a more even fuel flow. This is paired with a primer pump that functions to sip fuel into the carb before starting for a more convenient and stress-free pre-departure engine priming process. 

Other noteworthy design choices made to the GR Kart that make it ideal for beginners include the following: 

• Protective bumper to prevent other karts from riding up the GR Kart’s rear tire during a collision
• Rear hub-stopper pins to reduce the likelihood of rear hub detachment
• Grabby seat surfacing for hands when getting on or off the kart.
• A throttle cable mounting design aimed to prevent sticking in an open position

In Japan, the newly launched GR Kart retails at 385,000 Yen. That’s somewhere around P156,796 at current exchange rates. 

On that note, would a local Gazoo Racing kart series work? Maybe as a part of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines Cup.

Do note that the kart racing scene is significant in the local setting. Both the Batangas Racing Circuit and Clark International Speedway have dedicated kart racing tracks with regular teams.
