Ford Mustang Mach-E in Australia recalled for manufacturing issue, PH models affected?

MANILA: Ford Motor Company of Australia Proprietary Limited has issued a recall for the Mustang Mach-E Rear Wheel Drive due to a manufacturing issue.

Per the Land Down Under’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport, and the Arts; the said manufacturing problem can cause the rear differential pinion shaft to break. 

The agency noted that it could result “in a loss of motive power or loss of the park function when the vehicle is stationary.”

Hazards—the Department pointed out—include an increased “risk of an accident and serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, and pedestrians.”

Are PH models affected?

Ford Motor Company Philippines has yet to issue a statement on whether the locally sold models suffer the same issues as the electrified ponies in Australia.

Of note—at the time of writing—the only facility that produces the Ford Mustang Mach-E is in the marque’s Cuautitlan Stamping and Assembly Plant in Mexico.

Covered are certain Australian market models from the 2022 to 2023 model year batch, affecting some 867 vehicles.

Of note, affected models “may” show malfunction indicators and display the following diagnostic codes:

• P0A2F
• P019C
• P27B2

Ford Motor Company of Australia Proprietary Limited has written to owners of impacted models and asked them to contact their authorized Ford Dealer or Ford Customer Relationship Center to have the work carried out free of charge.

Ford Mustang Mach-E PH powertrain specs 

Power for the Philippine-specification Mustang Mach-E comes from a dual permanent magnet synchronous motor setup that generates some 390 horsepower and 676 Newton-meters of torque.

It uses a single-speed automatic transmission with a monostable gear shifter and packs an all-wheel-drive drivetrain. 

Range-wise, it does about 550 kilometers with the 88 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion nickel-cobalt-manganese battery, rechargeable via both alternating current and direct current systems.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is sold in the Philippines in two variants, with a starting price of P3.199 million.
