Is the Ford Mustang Mach-E a yay or nay?

Not too long ago, Ford Motor Company Philippines launched its first electric vehicle in the country in the form of the Mustang Mach-E. 

The emissions-free compact crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV) is sold in a single Premium variant priced at P3.499 million. So, is the beefy electric pony worth its hefty sticker price? Here’s a quick look at the Ford Mustang Mach-E’s pros and cons — to help car buyers make a better decision before splashing the cash. 

Pros: 

All-wheel power 

One of the advantages of getting the Ford Mustang Mach-E is getting access to an electric all-wheel drive system, which is standard for the model. 

This means that electric power is sent to all four wheels of the compact SUV, allowing for improved capabilities in most terrains. This means the electric pony can handle not just metro highways, but also can take on some challenging roads in most provinces. 

And while we’re on the topic of power, the Ford Mustang Mach-E’s dual permanent magnet synchronous motor setup generates the below numbers:

Since Ford Motor Company Philippines touts the model having “SUV capacity, Mustang power,” here’s a quick look at how the eco-friendly pony compares to the combustion-powered sports car:

The Ford Mustang Mach E appears to be better on paper when compared to the Mustang EcoBoost Premium, which is priced similarly at P3.499 million. However, the more expensive Mustang GT Premium makes more power and torque at 486 horses and 567 Nm of pulling power. However, the said model has a sticker price of P3.999 million.

Decent range 

Range is also a pro when looking at the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Per the local wing of the Blue Oval brand, the model can drive up to 550 kilometers (km) in a single charge, which is good enough for city drives and spontaneous out-of-town escapades. 

When pitted against other compact SUVs in the market, the Ford Mustang Mach-E offers a sweet spot between capacity and price:

Like a proper electric vehicle, the Ford Mustang Mach-E offers several interior features for today’s car buyers.

Cons: 

Only one variant 

While it’s understandable that Ford Motor Company Philippines is playing it safe with the introduction of the Mustang Mach-E, we can’t help but wonder if the nameplate will draw in more crowds if the company’s local wing added more variants to the roster. 

In the United States, customers can choose from four trims, namely Select, Premium, GT, and Rally. The latter in particular gets several blacked-out claddings, some hood and decklid stripes, as well as a set of black wheels.
