MG Motor PH might launch the new MG5 at 2026 MIAS

MANILA: Morris Garages (MG) Motor Philippines could be launching the newest version of the MG5 sedan at the upcoming 2026 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). 

The aforementioned has been hinted at by the brand’s local arm via its social media channels through various teasers. One of the latest posts for the aforementioned somewhat shows the vehicle’s front-end design, and it appears similar to the MG5 version already sold in various regions of the Middle East. 

Notably, it looks different from the facelifted MG5 that is currently sold in China. It ditched the huge grille in favor of a sleeker, more modern fascia with two separate main vents. The upper vent of the car is flanked by shark LED headlamp clusters dubbed by the brand as the “lightning blade” design.

MG5: UAE market specs, features

Propelling the UAE-spec MG5 is a 1.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine that can produce up to 108 horsepower and 140 Newton-meters of torque. The said engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), sending power to the model’s front wheels. 

Ensuring ride quality and stability for the UAE market MG5 is a front MacPherson strut and rear torsion beam suspension systems. It also uses front and rear disc brakes.

Notably, the UAE version of the MG5 comes with a slightly less powerful engine than the local model, but wishful thinking that the one coming to the local market can retain the same tune from the old model. Otherwise, the MG5 is slightly larger overall than the current MG5. 

Some exterior amenities available on the MG5 in the UAE include LED lighting fixtures, power-adjustable side mirrors with heating, and 16-inch alloy wheels. 

Inside, some notable features of the UAE-spec MG5 include, but are not limited to: 

• Leather upholstery
• 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster
• 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen display
• Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Wireless smartphone charging pad
• Six-piece speaker set
• Push-to-start button
• Electronically-controlled air-conditioning system
• Keyless entry
• Electronic parking brake with auto-hold

Safety-wise, the model comes standard with front dual airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, anti-lock braking, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, cruise control, and a 360-degree view camera. 

For now, MG Motor Philippines has not released any specs or pricing details for the upcoming sedan. So, for those wanting to know more, you can see it in person at the 2026 MIAS, April 9-12, at the World Trade Center Manila.
