Is MG PH eyeing to introduce the D90 Rakan?

MANILA: Is Morris Garages (MG) Motor ready to introduce the D90 Rakan to the Philippine market?

Recently, SAIC Motor Philippines received regulatory approval for the aforementioned model, which is a three-row sport utility vehicle. This development follows the company’s announcement that it will bring the nameplate to the country in early 2026. 

While the company has yet to share its specifics at the time of posting, here are some bits about the MG D90 Rakan as stated in the government documents.

Based on a pair of homologation papers, the MG D90 Rakan will likely be offered in two variants: Flagship and Executive. Both trims will be powered by a 2.0-liter Euro 5-rated diesel engine that lets the vehicle reach speeds of up to 175 kilometers per hour. Power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The powertrain of the unit displayed at last year’s Manila International Auto Show can dish out:

Additionally, the drivetrain boasts a 4x4 configuration, thanks to its middle and rear locking differentials.

• 64-color ambient lighting system 

Once it is formally introduced, the model will go toe-to-toe with the heavyweights in the midsize sport utility vehicles category, namely the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Nissan Terra, Isuzu mu-X, and Ford Everest.
