3 reasons to be excited about the iCAUR V27

Chinese brand iCAUR, a marque under the Chery Group, is due to launch in the Philippine market soon. One of its offerings is the V27 - a boxy sport utility vehicle (SUV) said to be abounding in onboard amenities while retaining adventure-ready capabilities. 

So, what can we expect from the iCAUR V27? Are there any reasons to be excited for this nameplate? Let’s find out here by checking out its Chinese market specifications and features. We will likewise mention some of its details that were already published by the Department of Energy (DOE).  

Peppy, electrified powertrain

In terms of powertrain, the DOE’s website that lists recognized electrified models indicates that the iCAUR V27 is a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV). Specifically, it uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that serves as a generator for its dual- or single-motor setups. 

The variant with a single motor is, of course, the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) trim, while the one with two is the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version. 

Regardless of which, these are quite peppy rides, with the RWD variant producing up to 248 horsepower (hp) and 300 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque, and the AWD trim producing 449 hp and 505 Nm of torque. Additionally, the model does get an electronic differential locking system paired with an intelligent torque vectoring system. 

The AWD trim, in particular, will surely grab the attention of those who enjoy outdoor activities such as glamping. Plus, it boasts a total combined range of more than 1,200 kilometers (km), making it the ideal road-trip chariot. 

On the one hand, do remember that the V27 isn’t a ladder-frame ride. It is, in fact, a unibody model that rides on front MacPherson struts and multi-link rear suspension systems. Sure, it isn’t a hardcore off-roader, but we can surmise that it can provide a more pliant ride (and presumably more engaging drive) than high-riding true-blooded sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks.

Loads of creature comforts

Another reason to be excited about the iCAUR V27 is its interior, which was designed to combine rugged functionality with comfort-oriented features and lots of technology. 

For starters, the global-spec version’s five-seater interior layout comes equipped with leather upholstery, a dual-panoramic sunroof, and power-adjustable front seats. The seats in the front row have memory functionality, easy entry, and built-in ventilation. 

Everyone inside, meanwhile, is kept cool by a dual-zone automatic climate control system with both PM2.5 and CN95 air filters, an electronic air purifier, and a fragrance system. 

These go together with the “Interstellar Cockpit” design, which helped the V27 gain the Best Interior Design Award in the premium car category at the 2026 Torino Automotive Design Award (TADA). This was praised by the judges for its good combination of ruggedness and refinement. 

Plus, the said cockpit offers practical proportions, good visibility, and a commanding driving position - a must-have especially for tackling light off-roading and even busy in-city roads. 

Handling on-board entertainment and navigation for the iCAUR V27 is a 15.4-inch 2.5K high-definition (HD) touchscreen infotainment display. This is backed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor that provides the screen with responsiveness and the ability to simultaneously handle the vehicle’s climate control settings, navigation, and many other features. For sound, the interior of the V27 uses a 15-piece Pioneer speaker set. 

Additionally, the said screen comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and intelligent voice control. Topping up devices inside the vehicle is done through a wireless smartphone charging pad and USB ports. 

Likewise notable are the V27’s 49 storage compartments spread around its cabin. This offers plenty of options for occupants to stow away various knick-knacks - a crucial tool especially for those with kids who like to bring toys and books with them during road trips. 

For the driver, the iCAUR V27 provides the following amenities: 

• 8.88 digital gauge cluster
• Electronic parking brake
• Drive mode selector (nine drive modes)
• Leather steering wheel
• Electronic parking brake
• Smart key system

Highly comprehensive safety suite

Those wanting a thoroughly safe vehicle will have plenty to like about the iCAUR V27. This is because it gets a rather robust suite of advanced driver-assist systems called the Super Falcon 700+. 

Specific components of this suite include: 

• Adaptive cruise control
• Traffic jam assist
• Smart cruise control with stop and go
• Traffic sign recognition
• Speed limiter
• Lane keep assist
• Lane centering control and assist
• Lane departure warning
• Emergency lane keeping
• Autonomous emergency braking
• Forward collision warning
• Rear collision warning 
• Rear cross-traffic alert and braking
• 540-degree around view monitor
• Intelligent high beams
• Driver monitoring system

Apart from the aforementioned, the V27 gets an equally long list of standard safety gear which consists of seven airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, anti-lock braking, brake assist, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, tire pressure monitoring, and a security system. 

Final thoughts

So, while it isn’t out yet, the iCAUR V27 has a lot going for it that many on the hunt for a premium SUV would want. It has loads of power, the ability to tackle light off-roading, plenty of creature comforts, and a very robust collection of safety equipment. 

Filipino buyers, however, are very price-conscious. As such, its real appeal to locals will largely stem from its yet-to-be-revealed suggested retail price and how competitive it will be. 

Remember, the SUV segment is very crowded at the moment, and yes, most new players are also electrified nameplates like the V27. Some select few even have the same amount of safety gear and roughly the same oomph, powertrain-wise.
