Sojitz Fuso PH showcases eCanter at PITS

MANILA: Sojitz Fuso Philippines Corporation (SFP), now with its Mitsubishi Fuso three-diamond logo, has showcased the eCanter and the internal combustion Canter FE73 at the Philippine International Truck Show. 

Notably, the eCanter highlights the brand’s goal of fielding fully electric commercial vehicles in the country. With the said model still based on the familiar Canter, it shows that the brand leans heavily on its “established legacy,” as this new advanced electric truck is built on a proven platform that can evolve to meet modern logistics demands. 

On the one hand, the Canter is a true mainstay of SFP. With decades of improvements, the company says this model continues to deliver reliable and dependable transport solutions for enterprises ranging from small to medium to large scales.

For the unaware, the Canter nameplate has been around since 1963. Fast forward to the present, and it continues to change in order to cater to the “needs of the customers.” 

And, as mentioned above, SFP’s booth at the inaugural PITS showcases the Mitsubishi Fuso three-diamond logo - representing its legacy and its tech-forward stance when it comes to commercial mobility solutions. 

“Here at our booth, we are bringing together two important chapters of the Mitsubishi Fuso story. The Fuso Canter as a long-standing legacy in the light-duty truck segment, and the eCanter, reflecting our direction toward a more sustainable future,” President and Chief Executive Officer of SFP Yosuke Nishi said. 

“These two vehicles may represent different points in our journey, but they share the same purpose: to support our Filipino customers and help their businesses move forward,” Nishi added. 

Fuso eCanter

SFP didn’t disclose any specifications for the Fuso eCanter at PITS, but from previous test drives, it was stated that it comes with S (small), M (medium), and L (large) battery configurations. The L unit comes with a total of three battery packs with a capacity of 124 kilowatt-hours (kWh). This produces up to 172 horsepower and 324 kilometers of range. 

The model also comes with a regenerative braking system and both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) charging ports. 

When using CCS Type 2 DC fast charging, the eCanter L can top up from zero to 90 percent in 75 minutes. Built into the vehicle is the Smart Charging scheduler for effective fleet charging management. 

The one displayed at PITS comes with a 14-foot loading span variant. On the L version mentioned above, the 14-foot body style eCanter has a 3,400-millimeter wheelbase length and a chassis payload capacity of roughly 3,700 kilograms.
