JMS 2025: Mitsubishi Fuso debuts H2IC and H2FC hydrogen prototype trucks
One uses an electric motor, while the other works like a diesel unit
TOKYO: Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation has debuted the H2IC and H2FC hydrogen-powered trucks at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What kind of truck is the Fuso H2IC prototype?
The Fuso H2IC prototype is a heavy-duty truck that uses a hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine. What is the total range of the Fuso H2FC prototype?
According to Fuso, the H2FC prototype can travel up to 1,200 kilometers on a single full hydrogen load. The two are based on the heavy-duty Super Great, the company’s largest truck platform. But while both use hydrogen as fuel, each vehicle comes with varying powertrain systems.
For the H2FC uses fuel cells to convert hydrogen to electric power via a series of chemical reactions. The generated power is then fed to an electric motor.
The H2IC, on the other hand, is a heavy-duty internal combustion truck that uses hydrogen from a built-in tank. According to the company’s engineers, this prototype uses a converted diesel engine.

Moreover, the H2FC was designed to be compatible with Fuso’s subcooled liquid hydrogen (sLH2) technology, which is touted to have solved prior complications in hydrogen refueling. When using the said system, it takes only 15 minutes to fully top up the H2FC, thereby reducing downtime and operational delays.
According to the Japan-based truck manufacturer, the two heavy-duty prototypes are functional platforms that represent its commitment to developing effective logistics solutions that are also emissions-free and more environmentally friendly than traditional diesel-powered solutions.

The aforementioned goes on top of the fact that a majority of global markets are yet to have their own networks of hydrogen-related infrastructure. The one exception is the Japanese Domestic Market, which already has gas-focused companies like the Iwatani Corporation.
