Aston Martin showcases Valhalla at Monaco

MANILA: Aston Martin has presented the Valhalla to the public in Monaco.  

The British luxury car brand’s first series production mid-engined supercar, first plug-in hybrid, and first production vehicle with dedicated electric vehicle range, was driven by Aston Martin Aramco Formula One team driver and two-time Formula One World Champion, Fernando Alonso. 

“Having followed this project closely for the past 18 months and working alongside the development team, unveiling Valhalla’s dynamic capability to the world at the Monaco Grand Prix weekend is a fantastic moment for both myself and the brand. Taking Aston Martin’s unmatched luxury credentials and added cutting-edge F1-inspired technology and class-leading performance, I can confirm Valhalla is a true supercar both on road and on track. Outside of the outright power and dynamics, it delivers on all of the raw feelings and emotions you look for when behind the wheel of a car like Valhalla,” the 43-year-old Spanish race car driver said. 

Until last week, the Aston Martin Valhalla was only showcased to the public in a static display. Its drive at Monte Carlo, around Casino Square, and through the “tunnel” allowed the nameplate to exhibit its capabilities to spectators. 

Hybrid powertrain 

Under the Aston Martin Valhalla’s hood is a 4.0-liter V8, twin-turbo engine, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). 

In unison, the abovementioned setup dishes out the following numbers: 

Maximum power output (in horsepower)	1,064
Maximum torque (in Newton-meters)	1,100

 

According to the Gaydon-headquartered carmaker, the internal combustion engine boasts the following features: 

• Bespoke air-to-air charge cooling
• Flat plane crankshaft
• New turbochargers with 63-millimeter compressor in a new housing

Meanwhile, here is the configuration of its hybrid system: 

• Two electric motors on front axle (centrally mounted Electric Drive Unit [EDU>)
• One electric motor on rear axle, integrated within new and bespoke DCT
• Torque vectoring delivered by front axle EDU

Special livery, aerodynamic body

Mirroring its sustainable core is a special livery inspired by the AMR25 race car. 

The Aston Martin Valhalla was dressed in Podium Green with Lime Green accents. 

Its beautiful paintwork accentuates its aerodynamic capabilities, which we have listed, here: 

• Active front wing
• Active rear wing 
• Underbody aerodynamics with flat floor design 

Supporting the car’s performance are the following suspension systems: 

• Push rod front suspension with inboard springs, dampers
• Multi-link rear suspension
• Front axle nose lift functionality

The Aston Martin Valhalla rides on forged aluminum wheels, which measure 20 inches at the fore and 21 inches at the back. The former is shod in 285/30 ZR 20 tires while the latter gets 335/30 ZR 21 rubbers, both of which are bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 AMLs.

To witness the culmination of the tireless work from all teams involved, showcased on an iconic F1 circuit like Monaco and driven by an icon like Fernando, is a significant moment in Aston Martin’s rich history of both road cars and racing,” Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer Adrian Hallmark noted. 

Limited release 

The Aston Martin Valhalla will only have 999 samples. 

Delivery of the units is expected to commence in the second half of the year.
