KG MOBILITY Rexton

The cabin of the 2024 KG Mobility Rexton is reasonably spacious. It comes in either a brown or black theme. The middle of the dashboard gets wood accent. The front seats in the higher Highland trim comes with power adjustability. Along with the seats, the dashboard gets Nappa leather treatment that lends a more upmarket feel. The standard Apex trim gets black leatherette upholstery that looks nice. A lot of hard plastics, particularly on the doors, have been used in the cabin to keep production costs low. But that also increases durability. There’s an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that does look a bit underdone. There’s a sheen on the display that hampers visibility from certain angles. The menus aren’t much intuitive either. The Rexton’s rivals have bigger screens. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster was added in the upgrade. The car gets 236 litres of cargo space with all seats up.

The 2024 KG Mobility Rexton comes with a new honey honeycomb grille along with new headlights refinished in Titanium Grey. The chrome accents on either side of the headlight housing add more flare to the car’s front. The side has indents that lends a lot of muscle to the car. A chrome strip bores on the windows. Roof rails come as standard fitment. The rear gets crab-claw LED taillights. The fog lights are placed below these. The accent line on the tailgate forges a more chiselled look. Even the tailgate has a chrome strip that runs between the taillight. The all-black combination bumper comes with a diffuser. The car runs on 20-inch alloy wheels.

The 2024 KG Mobility Rexton is a comfortable car. While the two front seats enjoy maximum legroom and headroom, second-row space is good too. Even six-foot tall passenger can fit into the second-row, which can’t be said about many other seven-seaters. But the third row, as expected, is cramped. While entry to this row isn’t much difficult, finding a comfortable seating position is. There’s almost no under-thigh support. Legroom and headroom is also extremely limited. Otherwise all seats are padded and offer good back support. There’s a bid of a body roll in the Rexton. While the suspension is nicely balanced, it does lean while manoeuvring. The chassis is firm and doesn’t fling passengers during tight cornering. The dual-zone climate control cools the car fast.

The entry-level 2024 KG Mobility Rexton Apex trim is equipped with a turbocharged, four-cylinder, 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 202 PS/441 Nm. The motor is mated to a seven-speed automatic with a drive mode selector. While the engine is powerful, it takes time to rev. It runs out of steam when pressed to hard. The transmission is seamless and does a superb job of balancing the power. The 2024 KG Mobility Rexton Apex doesn’t get paddle shifters. The car handles well. Turning corners at a speed isn’t a problem. The car merges well with traffic. But like most SUVs, it’s on the highway that the Rexton truly shines.

The 2024 KG Mobility Rexton comes with a lot of standard safety equipment. These include antilock braking, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and multiple airbags. The car lacks a rear-view camera.  

The 2024 KG Mobility Rexton has a starting price of ₱2.299 million. Running costs are low and maintenance is easy too. The build quality is solid. All these make it a worthy and affordable SUV.
