Chery unboxes Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV, 1.6T models at MIAS

MANILA: Local Chery distributor United Asia Automotive Group Inc. (UAAGI) unveiled the all-new Chery Tiggo 8 Pro in plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and 1.6T variants at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). 

With the unveiling of the Tiggo 8 Pro, UAAGI president  Erroll Dueñas said: With (the Tiggo 8's) luxurious styling and features, we expect it to surprise and delight Filipinos longing for the design and technology found in high-end luxury SUVs, but at a much more affordable price point."

The Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV retails for P2.4 million, while the Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6T has price tag of P1.645 million. Both models were teased by the company leading to the 2022 MIAS. 

The Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV is powered by a 1.5-liter (155hp, 230Nm) engine, 19.27kWh battery, and dual electric motors. In the vehicle's EV mode, only the battery and motors are switched on to allow EV driving for a claimed range of 95 kilometers. Once the battery's charge has depleted, it will take three hours to fully charge it again. 

In the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV's HEV driving mode, all three power sources are activated. The transmission used is what Chery calls Hybrid Special Transmission. 

Both Tiggo 8 Pro models are similar in appearance, boasting Diamond grille and upscale-looking slim LED headlamps. The fog lamps and daytime running lights (DRLs) are all LED as well for better road illumination.

More upmarket styling touches come from distinctive character lines, large 18-inch alloy wheels, and a prominent silver-chrome trim on the lower portion of the doors. 

The rear is consistent with the luxury theme, with LED taillamps, integrated silver-chrome-tipped dual tailpipes, and a rear spoiler that seamlessly extends from the roof. 

The Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6T is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 183hp and 275Nm. This engine is coupled with a new seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission. 

Inside the Tiggo 8 Pro models, the cabin takes a brown-and-black color scheme with diamond stitching on the seats, which are reminiscent of those found in English luxury car brands, Chery said. An Apple CarPlay-enabled 12.3-inch touchscreen (with eight speakers, wireless smartphone charging, and three USB ports) and a fully digital seven-inch instrument cluster round the equipment list. 

On top of these technologies, the Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6T packs a suite of Advance Driving Assistance System with 11 functions, namely: Blind Spot Detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Door Opening Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Integrated Cruise Assist, Intelligent High-Beam Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Speed Limit Sign Recognition.
