DPWH launches motorist assistance program for 'Undas'

MANILA: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) stated that it is once again ready to assist drivers, particularly those going home for the Undas weekend.

In a statement, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan announced that the agency has relaunched the Lakbay Alalay program, which deploys different teams to help motorists while they are on the road.

The operations began yesterday and will last until November 2, Wednesday, at 12 n.n.

“Our teams will be working on a round-the-clock shift to provide emergency assistance to travelers and ensure major thoroughfares are well-maintained and free from obstruction and potholes,” Bonoan said.

The groups consist of uniformed crew and field personnel, with maintenance tools available in navy blue tents at designated stations.

In order to prevent traffic jams along major highways and routes leading to cemeteries, Bonoan also directed implementing offices with current projects to make sure that safety signage and traffic advisories are placed by contractors.

He also said that DPWH works closely with other government agencies including the Land Transportation Office, the Philippine National Police, and local government units.

Malacañang declared October 31 to be a special non-working holiday in the country to give Filipinos more time to spend with their families during the Undas holiday.
