MECQ brings back checkpoints at city, municipal borders

MANILA: The checkpoints are back as Metro Manila, Laguna, Rizal, Cavite, and Bulacan are placed under MECQ (modified enhanced community quarantine) once again.

While the checkpoints will only be placed in city and municipal boundaries of MECQ areas, JTF (Joint Task Force) COVID Shield commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said stricter measures will be imposed. This means that only APOR (authorized persons outside of residence) will be allowed to go out.

“We will be implementing stricter measures in areas under MECQ for 15 days starting midnight. This is not something new to our kababayan in Metro Manila and the four nearby provinces because we have been under this community quarantine before so what we are asking is for the cooperation of everybody to make the implementation of the security measures both for the public and your Philippine National Police,” Eleazar said.

City residents are advised to procure necessary and essential goods only within their respective communities so as not to be apprehended or fined, and to avoid running the risk of catching the COVID-19 virus.

“We highly encourage them to buy food and avail other basic goods and services in their respective communities because they will not be allowed to pass the quarantine control points which we will set up anew at the borders of cities and municipalities of Metro Manila and the four provinces that would be reverted to MECQ,” added Eleazar.

In MECQ, only one person per household will be allowed to go out to do groceries, and they must bear with them a quarantine pass.

A Pasig City policeman informed ZIGWHEELS PH earlier today that they are still awaiting orders regarding quarantine passes for people who plan to leave their residences on the first of the 15-day MECQ implementation.
