MPT South readies for Holy Week ‘exodus’

MANILA: Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPT South) is expecting an increase in vehicle traffic of up to 10 percent within its toll roads particularly at the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) and Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), as well as its C5 Link segment.

Per the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation subsidiary, the surge will likely start today until Sunday (March 31) — from the typical 43,000 daily traffic at CALAX, 170,000 on CAVITEX, and 12,300 on C5 Link.

Anticipating the high traffic volume, MPT South has reactivated the "Safe Trip Mo, Sagot Ko (SMSK)” motorist assistance program.

To boost traffic management, toll collection, emergency medical services, and incident response capabilities, additional manpower have been deployed.

Free towing services (up to the nearest exit) will also be provided to Class 1 vehicles from 6 a.m. of March 22-25; 6 a.m. of March 27-March 29; and 6 a.m. of March 30-April 1.

MPT South also announced roadworks along the carriageway will be suspended unless necessary.

MPT South President and General Manager Raul Ignacio noted the importance of radio frequency identification for toll transactions.

"Utilizing Easytrip RFID at MPTC Toll Plazas significantly reduces travel time compared to waiting in long cash lanes," he explained.

Motorists were also urged to download the MPT DriveHub app to manage their RFID account and receive real-time traffic updates across various MPTC toll roads.

Further, drivers were advised to check their vehicles before they go on the holiday trip.
