MPT South releases activity book to promote road safety among children

MANILA: Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPT South) has launched the Bayani Ka activity book to promote road safety among children. The launch was held at the Parañaque City Library on Thursday, September 29.

The Bayani Ka activity book is a comic-inspired interactive children's book that seeks to teach kids about road signs and familiarize them with road safety measures, particularly on expressways. Additionally, it features fun games, word searches, coloring pages, and other exercises that will help them improve their developmental skills. The activity book will be distributed to various elementary schools, DSWD children's centers and shelters for vulnerable youth, as well as public libraries in Metro Manila, Cavite, and Laguna.

At the book launch, MPT South introduced the main character of the book, Cavi, a seven-year-old elementary student. In the story, Cavi learned about road safety habits and even shared them with his classmates to help them understand how to better navigate the roads.

Present in the launch event were Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivares, Department of Education Youth Formation Division OIC-Chief Rovin James Canja, and ImagineLaw’s Road Safety Project Manager Atty. Daphne Marcelo.

“MPT South will continue to work to improve road safety and safe journey of children who have a higher risk of road traffic injuries, especially now that children have begun face-to-face classes after a two-year lockdown. This book is also a testament of our commitment in MPTC’s support to UNICEF’s joint effort in Child Road Safety will contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 3.6 to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic incidents, and 11.2 to provide access to sustainable transportation systems for all, improving road safety and public transport, with special attention to the needs of vulnerable populations, including children,” MPT South Assistant Vice President for Communication and Stakeholder Management Arlette Capistrano stated.

Mayor Olivares expressed his gratitude to MPT South for working with the local government unit of Parañaque in promoting the well-being of the children. “Let me assure everyone that Parañaque City, under my leadership, will continue to support all efforts in educating our young ones, as well as in creating and maintaining more secured and safer access, roads, and thoroughfares for them,” he said.
