MPTC: Motorists sans RFID sticker by Nov. 2 to pass thru 'installation' lane

MANILA: Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) said that motorists who still do not have radio frequency identification (RFID) stickers  by November 2 will be permitted to pass through the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), C5 Link, Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) — but they will instructed to go to  RFID installation lanes where they will have RFID stickers affixed onto their vehicles.

MPTC Chief of Technology and MPT South President and General Manager Roberto V. Bontia said, “We will convert some of the remaining cash lanes in all toll plazas of MPTC expressways to RFID installation lanes. At the same time, the off-site customer service stations will continue to operate and install RFID stickers. The stickers will remain to be free except for the initial load.”

The first day of enforcement of 100% RFID in all expressways will be on November 2, 2020, in compliance with Department Order 2020-012 of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), wherein the main goal is to aid in mitigating COVID-19 transmission and make the passage of vehicles more convenient.

NLEX Corporation President and General Manager  J. Luigi L. Bautista explained that aside from these drive-through RFID installation lanes, MPTC will also open other RFID reloading and installation sites in different areas. At NLEX-SCTEX, drive-through reloading lanes in Tipo, Angeles, Bocaue, Mindanao, and Balintawak will also be available.

Bautista said, “There’s no need for those who will not travel in November 2 or infrequent expressway travelers to be in a rush to get the RFID stickers since they can have the RFID installed on the day of their travel.  This is to avoid overcrowding and long queues at the installation sites. MPTC is aware that this is also a transition period for the motorists who have paid cash for the longest time.  “In anticipation, we will have our RFID Assist Squads positioned at the toll plaza as it has always been our priority to help any motorist who would like to use our expressways at any time.”

The tollway company persuades the public to acquire their Easytrip RFID stickers at authorized customer service stations. The locations can be checked in the social media pages of CALAX, CAVITEX-C5 Link, and NLEX-SCTEX.
