Next-gen Apple Carplay to encompass gauge customization, dynamic content

MANILA: The next-generation Apple Carplay will go beyond the typical information and entertainment features you see on the app today.

Apple said that once the next-generation in-car app drops, it will include gauge customization and dynamic content allowing automakers to change the design and layout of the screens to better suit the brand.

The said move — the American multinational corporation and technology company pointed out — will allow car companies to express their own visual design philosophy within Carplay to create an iconic, individual look tailored to their brand, their vehicles, and their unique functions.

“The result won’t just look like Apple, and it also won’t just look like a copy of the built-in system. It’s designed to be a unique celebration of both brands,” Apple Human Interface Designer Ben Crick noted.

Based on the brand’s presentation, carmakers can customize fully digital instrument clusters beginning with number fonts, gauge designs, and colors to the type of information displayed on the screens like the speed, fuel level, and engine temperature (for internal combustion engine-equipped vehicles) and battery level and estimated range (for electric cars).

The content displayed on the screens of next-generation Apple Carplay-fitted vehicles will also be dynamic. According to the California-headquartered tech firm, various information can be added to the screens such as maps, music, time, weather, tire pressure, and more.

No date was mentioned as to when the next-generation Apple Carplay will be rolled out.
