Over 211K Trees Planted Around NLEX, SCTEX Under 'Greening the NLEX' Program

MANILA: NLEX Corporation's Greening the NLEX program, which seeks to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles traveling along its expressways, has received support from around 500 volunteers from various bus companies, corporate institutions, government agencies, and youth organizations.

The Greening the NLEX program, which started in 2006, demonstrates the company's commitment to environmental protection by planting 10,000 trees along the mainline and interchanges of NLEX and SCTEX every year. These trees help improve the air quality and the ecosystem in the area.

The tree-planting activity, which was aimed at mitigating the effects of global warming and environmental imbalance, has been recognized by various stakeholders and has inspired public and private organizations to support the program.

Eight groups collaborated with NLEX Corporation on the program throughout the first half of 2023. Among these are the Familia Youth Ministry, Nagkakaisang Samahan ng Nangangasiwa ng Panlalawigang Bus sa Pilipinas, Inc., Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources, Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Bulacan Chapter, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Valenzuela City Environment and Natural Resources, and Valenzuela City Agricultural Office. Through these partnerships, NLEX and its stakeholders have developed a sense of shared responsibility and commitment to the environment.

NLEX has so far planted more than 211,000 trees throughout the entire stretch of the expressways, making it an important milestone toward promoting a more sustainable future.

“Our company has always been guided by the time-honored value of malasakit, wherein caring for the environment also means caring for the future generation. It is our hope that through this program, we are able to provide a healthier and cleaner environment, and leave a greener NLEX to our kids,” NLEX Corporation President J. Luigi Bautista stated.

Apart from promoting environmental responsibility among the participants, the tree-planting activity hopes to reinvigorate the spirit of volunteerism and foster solidarity.

Recently, 100 volunteers from the NSNBPI representing Partas Bus, Five Star Bus, Luzon Cisco Transport, Victory Liner, First North Luzon Transit, Genesis Transport, Bataan Transit, Baliwag Transit, and Golden Bee Transport planted bougainvillea trees in NLEX Dau, Pampanga.

“Sa pamamagitan ng pagtatanim ng mga puno sa paligid ng NLEX, kami ay buong pusong sumusuporta sa pagsugpo sa mga hamong dulot ng pagbabago ng klima. Naniniwala po kami na ang bawat munting halaman ay may malaking ambag sa pagpapabuti ng kalidad ng hangin at kalagayan ng kapaligiran (By planting trees around NLEX, we wholeheartedly support the curbing of challenges caused by climate change. We believe that every little plant has a big contribution to improving air quality and environmental conditions),” Victory Liner Inc. Field Operations Manager Villamor Maya stated.
