Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Review 2025
Hybrid cars have been in the market for a while now and Toyota has been leading this segment of the market with its Prius family of compact hybrid cars. With the skyrocketing sales of the Prius showing the demand for hybrid cars, it was time for someone else to enter into the competition and challenge the authority of Toyota. Hyundai entered this race in 2017 with its hatchback – Ioniq. Ever since, Ioniq has been leading the EPA’s charts as the most efficient vehicle and is the world’s first automobile to be available in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric variants. The 2019 model of the Ioniq hybrid has some exciting new features and is ruling the Philippine market ever since its introduction.
Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Interior & Features
As you move inside the car, you can see that you do not get the luxury of leather seats which is kind of expected on a Hybrid. The seats, however, are electrically adjustable. There is plenty of headroom for a driver of average height and the leg space is pretty decent too. The door panels and the dashboard are covered with a soft material having a decent texture. The infotainment system is compact yet subtle and is very easy to use. You also get dual climate control and two 12V charging points along with a USB port. The instrument cluster on the Ioniq is very neat and consists of a digital speedometer, fuel gauge, and charge indicator etc. The flat bottom steering wheel is equipped with paddle shifters and has controls that can help you adjust a number of features on the instrument cluster. The back row also has enough headroom and the boot space is large enough to hold ample luggage for those long vacations with your family.
Ioniq Hybrid Exterior
One of the unique features of this car is its front fascia. The sleek LED headlamps having a blue tinge depict Hyundai’s hybrid technology and look perfectly in tune with the hood. The designers have blended the Hyundai badge which houses all the safety sensors of the car with the front grille with such smartness that one can hardly differentiate the badge’s plastic from the grille. The air ducts around the corners of the front fascia are lined with LED lights and give the Ioniq a sporty look. At the rear, the roof slopes upon the trunk very gracefully. The upper part of the trunk door is equipped with a transparent glass pane so that the driver gets clear visibility through the rear windshield. A beautiful set of LED tail-lights completes the picture at the rear end.
Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Ride & Handling
You’ll notice that the performance of the Ioniq Hybrid is way better than the Toyota Prius once you sit behind the steering wheel. The sporty steering wheel on the Hybrid feels very comfortable and precise but gets a bit heavy once you turn on the Sports mode. The gear shifts are neither too fast nor too slow. Once you put your foot on the pedal to increase the speed, you can actually feel the internal combustion engine working in harmony with the electric motors to offer you that splendid experience of a Hybrid car.
Ioniq Hybrid Engine & Fuel Consumption
Under the hood, the Ioniq Hybrid houses a four-cylinder 1.6-litre engine along with electric motors that can generate a maximum power of 104 hp and a peak torque of 147 Nm. With this setup, you can get a mileage of around 56-58 MPG (~ 24 kmpl) in the city. The 6-speed automatic transmission proves to be more than enough for a car which is designed to go green.
Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Braking & Safety
Hyundai has equipped the Ioniq with a plethora of safety features. You get SRS airbags for the driver and side passenger on the front as well on the sides. Besides this, you also get lane assist, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control system, and crash sensors for added safety.
Ioniq Hybrid Verdict
With a price tag of Php 1.55 Million, the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid is definitely priced lower than its competitor Prius and is much more fuel efficient and has lower CO2 emissions as well. Hyundai has very successfully manufactured a perfect car which not only gives you all the comfort and luxury but is also kind to the planet. So if you are looking for a car which is fuel efficient and aids in saving the environment, then the Ioniq should definitely be high up on your wish list.
