Appearance-wise, the Kymco AK 550 Premium looks sporty and elegant at the same time. Its confident-looking fascia is flanked by angular LED headlamps with fang-like LED DRLs, giving it a powerful glare at night. It also sports huge curved signal lights for more visibility on the road. On top, it comes with an adjustable transparent windscreen, which provides the rider with excellent wind protection when cruising on the highway. Underneath, a two-tone bumper adds more detail to its overall front design.

Moreover, its silhouette exudes an aggressive aura, highlighted by its sharp contours and blacked-out features. This super touring maxi-scooter is fitted with 15-inch wheels. Additionally, branding stickers and emblems are proudly displayed on the sides of its tail end. Meanwhile, at the back, it features hypermodern-looking curved LED taillamps and another pair of signal lights with multiple beams.

Aside from that, the rider gets a fancy-looking digital display, heated grips, and a USB charging port. Its dual-stepped seat provides both the rider and the pillion with excellent comfort and ergonomics, even on long-distance trips out of town. Your passenger also has access to grab rails at the back for better balance at low speeds. And, its seat comes with a small adjustable backrest for the rider, delivering elevated comfort at all times. 

In terms of practicality, its under-seat storage can effectively accommodate a full-face helmet and other valuable belongings. Overall, the Kymco AK 550 Premium’s design offers a combination of style, modern functionality, and practicality wherever it goes. 

The Kymco AK 550 Premium comes with an Upside Down Fork suspension at the front and a Unit Swing Arm at the rear. This setup is credited for this super touring maxi-scooters adaptable ride inside and outside the city. It absorbs bumpers and other minor road imperfections with ease, resulting in a supple riding experience for you and your passenger. It also handles turns and corners quite well. 

However, its bulky frame may not be ideally suited for low-speed filtering through heavy traffic and navigating narrow streets. But, once you take it on the highway, you’ll instantly feel how comfortable it truly rides.

The Kymco AK 550 Premium is powered by a 550.4cc 2-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine that delivers 50.2 hp of maximum power and 52 Nm of maximum torque. This super touring maxi-scooter comes mated to a continuously variable transmission system and offers three riding modes: Sports + TCS (traction control system), Sports, and Rain Mode + TCS. 

That said, its engine offers instant power delivery off the line. You also have plenty of torque on tap for performing quick overtakes on free-flowing highways and tackling steep inclines in the provincial areas. Its CVT is also quite smooth and responsive. Additionally, its fuel economy is decent for its displacement. 

The Kymco AK 550 Premium is equipped with dual front and single rear disc brakes, which are supported by Kymco’s Advanced Intelligent Braking System (AIBS). This super touring maxi-scooter also comes with a traction control system, a cruise control system, and an engine check warning, among others.

In my opinion, the Kymco AK 550 Premium can be considered a jack of all trades in its segment. It is comfortable, exciting, well-equipped. That said, it definitely deserves more attention from local consumers.
