Who can avail of the toll exemption?
Vehicles transporting food and agricultural products can avail of the toll exemption, provided they are accredited by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and equipped with an RFID sticker. How long will the toll exemption be implemented?
The toll exemption will initially run for one month but may be extended depending on the results of ongoing review and assessment by the authorities. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) made the announcement, saying that the latest development was based on the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the government’s bid to keep food prices stable amid the ongoing fuel crisis.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), Department of Agriculture (DA) and major toll concessionaires have agreed to suspend toll collection for truckers, industry players, and farmers to ensure unimpeded movement of products.
“Ang utos sa atin ng Pangulo, dapat tuloy-tuloy ang pag-transport ng pagkain para matiyak na stable ang presyo ng pangunahing pagkain para masiguro na abot-kaya pa rin ito para sa ating mga kababayan (The President's order to us is that food transportation must continue to ensure that the price of basic food is stable to ensure that it is still affordable for our countrymen),” Lopez said.
The DOTr clarified that those accredited by the DA and are equipped with an RFID sticker will be toll relief.
With this, transporters of agricultural products can save between P600 and P1,800, depending on the vehicle class. The rebates will be credited to their RFID accounts on a weekly basis.
The toll exemption will be implemented initially for one month, but is extendable and is subject for review, assessment, and further discussions.
Further, Lopez thanked the San Miguel Corporation and Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, saying that the last move will be a big help to the agricultural sector.
