1M Driver’s License Cards Expected to Arrive in 2 Months -DOTr

MANILA: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that approximately one million plastic cards for the printing of driver's licenses are anticipated to be delivered within the next two months following the signing of contract with the winning bidder.

The DOTr stated that the backlog on the printing of driver's licenses is going to be cleared up now that Banner Plastic Card Inc., the winning bidder, has been given an authorization to proceed with production.

“We expect the backlogs of the license cards to be addressed quickly. Our aim is to normalize the supply of the cards so we will ensure that Banner delivers these cards efficiently. Banner Plastic Card Inc. should be able to make its first delivery within 60 days from June 26, 2023 as part of the terms of reference,” DOTr Undersecretary Kim Robert de Leon said.

While it might take some time for the winning bidder to deliver its first batch of plastic cards, De Leon guaranteed that the DOTr continues to work extra hard to keep up with the decreasing supply of plastic cards.

“We are working with Banner to see if we can have license cards delivered the soonest,” De Leon added.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO), an agency under the DOTr, ran out of plastic cards, causing a delay in issuing around 690,000 licenses.

Because of the shortage, the LTO extended the validity of driver's licenses that were supposed to expire on April 24 to October 31. The LTO also plans to introduce a digitalized version of its services, including permit renewal, online registration, and payment transactions.
