Beep cards can now be reloaded via mobile app

MANILA: Beep card users can now load their cards using a mobile app.

In another first-in-the-market offering, Beep card operator AF Payments Inc. is harnessing near-field communication (NFC) technology, which is present in mobile phones. 

To use this feature, cardholders must download the latest version of the Beep card app on their NFC-enabled smartphone.

In the app's main menu, users should tap the "buy Beep Load" button, and select the card to be loaded or input the details of an unregistered card.

Afterwards, users should enter the amount they wish to load,  complete the payment details and wait for validation.

Users will receive the load by placing the Beep card against the back of the phone, and place it there until a confirmation message appears on the screen.

The app currently accepts payments via Mastercard, Visa, or JCB credit and debit cards, as well as GCash, Paymaya, or QR PH, and carries a minimal processing fee.

Cardholders can use the mobile app to check their balance and monitor their transactions. They can also earn reward points from transactions, which can be redeemed as Beep load or QR tickets for select public transport routes.

Beep cards are used to pay for fares at the Light Rail Transit and Metro Rail Transit, among the cards' other functions. 

Beep cards are available at any LRT or MRT stations, EDSA bus stops, select point-to-point and jeepney terminals, and Ministop branches in Metro Manila. For their safety, customers are advised to only buy from legitimate and authorized resellers.
