CALAX Subsection 5 completion expected by Q3 2021

MANILA: Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar, together with executives from MPCALA Holdings Inc., conducted an ocular inspection to ascertain the progress of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) Subsection 5, which is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2021.

The CALAX Subsection 5 is a 7.2-km, 2x2 lane expressway that will connect Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road to Silang, Cavite. It is expected to serve around 5,000 vehicles daily, making the traffic along Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, and Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road lighter.

During the inspection, it was seen that the toll structures of the upcoming Silang East interchange were already erected, while other miscellaneous works are still being completed to guarantee the safety of the motorists who will be passing along the expressway.

Villar stated, “I am very pleased that despite the mobility challenges brought about by the pandemic, construction on CALAX Subsection 5 remains on track. It is a vital portion of CALAX that will help accelerate economic progress of Region IV-A, as it links the two provinces of Cavite and Laguna.”

According to MPCALA Holdings, Inc. President and General Manager Robert Bontia, the CALAX Subsection 5 is now 94% complete. MPCALA believes that the completion of the segment will significantly contribute in the growth of the community in the region.

Meanwhile, MPCALA and DPWH have also started construction on the 2.8-km CALAX Subsection 4. It will link Aguinaldo Highway to the upcoming Silang East interchange. This segment is expected to be completed by 2022.

“DPWH continues to exert full effort in the acquisition of right-of-way for all the remaining segments to be able to deliver the project by the end of 2022,” Villar said.

The segments which are currently open to the public run from Mamplasan to Sta. Rosa, Laguna. They serve around 10,000 vehicles daily.

Once completed, CALAX will span 45 kilometers with interchanges at Kawit, Governor’s Drive, Open Canal, Silang (Aguinaldo) Highway, Silang East, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay, Laguna Boulevard, and Laguna Technopark. It is expected to serve around 45,000 vehicles while reducing the travel time from Cavite to Laguna from two hours to less than an hour,
