Cavitex C5 Link now 20% complete

MANILA: The Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC) and Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) have announced that the Cavitex C5 Link project is now 20% complete.

The Cavitex C5 Link is a 7.7-km 2x3-lane expressway that will connect Cavitex R1 to C5 Road in Taguig.

The P15-billion project is composed of Segments 2 and 3. C5 Link segment 3A-1 connecting Merville to C5 Road has been operational since 2019, while Segment 3A-1 stretching from E. Rodriguez to Merville and Segment 2 from Cavitex R1 Interchange to Sucat Interchange are still under construction. According to CIC, the construction of Segment 3B from Sucat to E. Rodriguez is set to start in the first quarter of 2022.

In a statement, CIC President and General Manager Roberto Bontia said, “We are proceeding with the construction for this vital infrastructure project amidst the challenges of stricter lockdown. Together with our JV partner PRA, we are committed to ensure the welfare of our workers and adherence to safety protocols in continuing the works for the project.”

CIC is still working on ground improvements, concrete pouring, construction of slab deck, drainage system, and bridge substructure work.

Upon completion, the Cavitex C5 Link will cut down travel time from Cavitex to Makati or Taguig and vice versa by 30 to 45 minutes. It is expected to serve around 50,000 motorists and benefit those coming from Taguig, Makati, Las Piñas, and Pasay. CIC believes that this project will not only ease traffic congestion in these areas, but will also help stimulate economic development as the country moves towards new normal.

CIC also revealed that it will be installing automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras in toll plazas along Cavitex to improve the expressway’s RFID toll collection system. The ALPR system uses smart cameras to recognize vehicle license plates, and supports RFID scanners to expedite cashless transactions in toll plazas. The system has been applied at Cavitex C5 Link Segment 3A1 since the start of its operation.

CIC is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC). MPTC manages the operations of Cavitex, Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), NLEX Connector Road, and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
