Dagat-Dagatan Ramp of NLEX Harbor Link to open by January 2020

MANILA: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that they will be officially opening the Dagat-Dagatan Ramp of the NLEX Harbor Link for public access by January 2020. The DPWH and NLEX Corporation first opened the NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 to the public back in February 2019.

Harbor Link was constructed to create direct access between the Port Are and Northern and Central Luzon via the NLEX. Since it first opened, the segment has been able to successfully cut travel time to and from MacArthur Highway, Valenzuela City, C3 Road, and Caloocan City.

The new Dagat-Dagatan Ramp is expected to bring motorists directly from NLEX to Dagat-Dagatan in Malabon City. The section will span 2.6 kilometers, which will span from new Caloocan Interchange to Radial Road 10. According to the DPWH, they will be carrying out 24/7 construction to reach the target opening period.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar recently facilitated a progress inspection of the 2.6 km NLEX Harbor Link R-10 and the 8 km NLEX Connector elevated expressways where he also made a few announcements to the press.

Besides the new Dagat-Dagatan off ramp in January 2020, they announced that the construction of the new NLEX-SLEX Connector is already underway. Foundation works on the first 5 km section of the Connector Expressway have already begun at the new Caloocan Interchange. This section will extend to the future Sampaloc Interchange near España Boulevard in Manila.

223 piers will also be constructed to support the all-weather, all-vehicle NLEX Connector and will eventually connect with the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 in Sta. Mesa, Manila. According to Villar, travel time from NLEX to SLEX is expected to be reduced from the usual two hours to approximately twenty minutes.

Villar added that the elevated, four-lane divided carriageway NLEX Connector will have two interchanges and four toll plazas running above the Philippine National Railway (PNR) lines.

The NLEX Corporation has also recently submitted a new proposal to the DPWH to extend the Harbor Link Segment 10 to Anda Circle, which is between Intramuros and Manila South Harbor. More details on this soon to follow. Keep checking in with us for updates on this story.
