DBM approves P3-B fuel subsidy for PUV drivers, DOTr to expedite its release

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the P3-billion subsidy for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.

On that note, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) stated that the agency — together with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) — will work on quickly releasing the fuel vouchers to help the transport sector with the spiraling oil prices.

“Now that the funds have been approved by the DBM, we will make sure that our PUV drivers get immediate assistance,” Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista was quoted saying. 

In a press release, the DOTr revealed that a total of 1.36 million beneficiaries will receive fuel assistance. 

When broken down, the said figure translates to 280,000 “units,” which will receive a one-time cash grant from the LTFRB; 930,000 tricycle drivers and operators, who are to get assistance from the Department of Interior and Local Government; and some 150,000 delivery service riders, scheduled to be handed over help from the Department of Information and Communications Technology.

Regarding the amount, the DOTr stated that drivers of modern public utility jeepneys and modern UV Express vehicles will get P10,000, while operators of other modes of transport will receive P6,500.

Further, tricycle and delivery riders can expect to get P1,000 and P1,200, respectively.
