DOE exec says local EV industry experiences 'significant growth'

MANILA: Department of Energy (DOE) Director Patrick Aquino said that the local electric vehicle (EV) industry is growing rapidly ahead of the 11th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) next month.

This year’s PEVS will bring together industry leaders and stakeholders to talk about the development of EVs in the Philippines. Aquino underlined the need for cooperation between the public and private sectors and said that this summit will act as a venue to strengthen the growth of the EV industry in the country.

“The DOE, as the lead agency under the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), will marshal its efforts to ensure the successful implementation of EV initiatives. We are committed to driving the growth of the EV industry in the Philippines and providing a cleaner, more sustainable transportation alternative for our citizens,” Aquino stated.

One of the key developments noted by Aquino is the start of collection of charging fees by accredited electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) under the terms of EVIDA. This is good news for charging station companies, however, charging rates must adhere to the unbundling requirements. The DOE has released the guidelines for this initiative, which include a six-month transition period that will end in December.

Aquino and the DOE are at the vanguard of these major developments as the EV industry in the Philippines continues to grow. They collaborate with the private sector to enhance and accelerate the local EV sector.

The 11th PEVS will be held on October 19-21 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
