DOTr awards first contract packages for North-South Commuter Railway project

MANILA: The first four contract packages for civil works for the Manila-Calamba portion of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) System have been awarded by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The first four packages, which will be paid for with a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), would consist of a railway depot covering the Muntinlupa-Calamba line, nine elevated stations, and 31.5 kilometers of railway viaducts.

The joint venture between Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. and Dong-Ah Geological Engineering Company received the three contract packages, CPs S-04, S-05, and S-06.

The joint venture between Lotte Engineering & Construction Co., Gulermak Agir Sanayi Inssat ve Taahhut A.S., and EEI Corporation was subsequently given CP S-07.

The South Commuter Railway Project, a 54.6km railway from Espaǹa in Manila to Calamba in Laguna, will include this specific NSCR System component.

Totaling 18 stations, some of them will provide direct connectivity to the MRT-3, LRT-2, and LRT-1 lines as part of this project. This train route is anticipated to carry 600,000 passengers each day once it is fully operational.

Expected to be operational by 2028, the NSCR also aims to cut travel time between Manila and Calamba City by at least half and spur economic growth in South Luzon.
