DPWH constructs and rehabilitates over 1K km of roads from Jul-Nov 2022

MANILA: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) claimed that it had complied with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s order to build bridges, flood control structures, and school buildings that are of high quality and efficiency.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the major infrastructure projects undertaken by the DPWH from July to November 2022?

The CALAX, the NLEX-SLEX Connector Road, the Central Luzon Link Expressway, the Cagayan de Oro River Flood Management Project, the Samar-Pacific Coastal Road, and the Mindanao Growth Corridor Road Sector Project are some of the major infrastructure projects undertaken by the DPWH.
  • Aside from road construction projects, what other projects did DPWH work on from July to November 2022?

The DPWH has renovated a total of 112 bridges, 650 flood control structures, and 2,575 school buildings for use by public school students.
  • In its accomplishment report issued by the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS), the DPWH said that from July to November 2022, it has built, maintained, and rehabilitated 1,105 kilometers of roads.

In addition, it has renovated a total of 112 bridges, 650 flood control structures, and 2,575 school buildings for use by public school students.

The DPWH also stated that during the same time frame, it had constructed about 75 kilometers of farm-to-market roads with funding from the Department of Agriculture (DA), as part of the government's commitment to assisting farmers in getting their produce to public markets.

The Cavite-Laguna Expressway, the North Luzon Expressway-South Luzon Expressway (NLEX-SLEX) Connector Road, the Central Luzon Link Expressway, the Cagayan de Oro River Flood Management Project, the Samar-Pacific Coastal Road, and the Mindanao Growth Corridor Road Sector Project are some of the major infrastructure projects undertaken by the DPWH.

The DPWH is also working on the Davao City Bypass Construction Project, the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge, the Panguil Bay Bridge, the Samal Island-Davao City Bridge, and road network development projects in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao.

One of the DPWH's top priorities under the administration's socioeconomic plan is a program to relieve traffic congestion by building high-quality highways, expressways, bypasses, diversion roads, flyovers, and interchanges.

The DPWH has been actively involved in disaster response as well. According to the DPWH's report to Malacañang, it deployed more than 7,000 personnel as the government responded to many disaster areas caused by earthquakes and the series of typhoons that struck the country in 2022. The DPWH also sent out 1,711 equipment units and cleared 168 road sections in several provinces from Luzon to Mindanao.

Besides that, the DPWH is actively working on the Integrated and Seamless Transport System Program, which includes upgrading the Daang Maharlika, building megabridges and inter-island links, and connecting gaps on national roads.

The DPWH will also build and upgrade access roads leading to tourist sites, industry and trade corridors, roll on/roll off (RORO) ports, airports, and railway stations under its Rural Roads Convergence Program.

Based on the DPWH program, farm-to-market and farm-to-mill roads will be constructed to support the government's Agri-infrastructure Support Program.

In order to develop more habitable, sustainable, and resilient communities, the DPWH is also conducting initiatives on flood management, water management, and basic social infrastructure support.
