EDSA rehab to kick off this month with smaller budget of P6-B
Less than half of its original P17 billion budget
MANILA: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to begin this year’s round of rehabilitation for EDSA. But contrary to the project’s original budget of P17 billion, the agency will move forward with the initiative with only P6 billion.

Interestingly, the timeline of the said EDSA upgrades was also cut down. The original plan required two years of work, which has been reduced to just eight months per DPWH’s estimates. The aforementioned is in accordance with the direction of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who wanted the project to be finished as fast and as cheaply as possible.

The President said that this was unacceptable. It needed to be finished fast with minimal disruption, so the new plan will take eight months instead of two years using stone mastic asphalt.) Additionally, the DPWH Secretary assured that EDSA will retain its dedicated lanes for buses to ensure smooth and fast travel for commuters.

To address traffic during the length of rehabilitation works on EDSA, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be deploying additional personnel. The said agency will likewise announce the opening of alternative routes to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
Lastly, the DPWH said that the first phase of the EDSA rehab project will start from Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City to Orense in Makati City.
