Fare hikes for jeeps, buses, taxis, TNVS to take effect this October

MANILA: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved the fare hike for jeepneys, buses, taxis, and Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) after transport groups have repeatedly called for higher fares due to rising fuel prices.

For traditional and modern public utility jeepneys (PUJs), a P1 provisional increase was approved for the first four kilometers. The minimum fare will be P12 for traditional jeepneys and P14 for modern jeepneys. The succeeding kilometer run will be P1.80 for traditional jeepneys and P2.20 for modern jeepneys.

For city and provincial buses, the LTFRB approved a P2 uniformed base for the first five kilometers. There will be a fare hike of P0.35 to P0.50 for the succeeding kilometer, depending on the type of bus.

The flag down rate for taxis and TNVS will increase by P5. Taxis and sedan-type TNVS will have a minimum fare of P45, while AUV/SUV-type TNVS will have a minimum fare of P55. Hatchback-type TNVS will have a flag down rate of P35.

Senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students will still be eligible for 20% discount.

The fare hike will be effective by the first week of October, according to the LTFRB.
