Here's why gearheads should look into Seiko's latest offerings

MANILA: Seiko recently unveiled its latest set of Prospex wristwear to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the brand’s first diver’s watch.

In a statement, the Japanese marque shared that the newly-revealed products — the SLA081, SPB509 and SPB511 — “embody the same values gearheads look for in a well-built car: precision, durability, and timeless craftsmanship.”

Seiko noted that motoring enthusiasts should look onto its new limited-run models as “watches and wheels go hand-in-hand.”

“Both are intricate machines that demand craftsmanship, performance, and soul. Whether you’re shifting gears on a mountain pass or timing laps at the track, a Seiko diver’s watch brings the same philosophy to your wrist as a finely tuned machine does to your garage,” Seiko expounded.

Here’s what car-loving watch-buyers can enjoy with the three newest products from Seiko.  

SLA081

Seiko’s SLA081 Marinemaster Professional is powered by the new Caliber 8L45 — fine-tuned to a daily tolerance of +10 to -5 seconds. Per Seiko, this could be seen as a mechanical equivalent of a naturally aspirated engine.

The said watch has a 72-hour power reserve that guarantees reliability whether 600 meters under the sea or chasing corners on a weekend road trip.

Tough as a rally-spec roll cage, the Seiko SLA081 Marinemaster Professional comes with a titanium case rated for saturation diving and a diamond-like carbon coated bezel for maximum scratch resistance— just like ceramic brake discs that can be found in premium cars.

Further, its dial — a visual tribute to the deep sea —has a textured blue gradient that mirrors the mysterious ocean floor. “The applied markers and thick paint layers create depth and legibility, much like a finely detailed instrument cluster in a high-end GT car,” Seiko claimed.

SPB509, SPB511

Meanwhile, Seiko said that the SPB509 and SPB511 drew inspiration from the brand's 1965 and 1968 diver’s watches— the same era that gave birth to legendary race cars and bulletproof mechanical reliability.

• Paying homage to the 1968 classic, the SPB509 runs on Caliber 6R54 and has been updated with a GMT function — perfect for those who travel across time zones.
• Inspired by 1965 original, the SPB511 is outfitted with a Caliber 6R55 and a clean silver dial

Per Seiko, both watches have updated clasps that allow micro-adjustments — ideal for wearing over driving gloves or a wetsuit.

“These models evoke a design language that feels just as at home in a vintage Land Cruiser or a modern GR Yaris — functional, bold, and unmistakably Japanese,” Seiko noted.

Set to be retailed in limited-run fashion at Seiko Boutiques and select retailers worldwide, here are some important information about the three models:
