Jaecoo PH highlights J5 BEV's camping-oriented features

MANILA: Jaecoo Philippines, twin brand of Omoda Philippines, highlighted the features of the J5 battery-electric vehicle (BEV) that make the nameplate an ideal emissions-free sport utility vehicle for camping.

On that note, here is a quick look at how the electric automobile can be a good fit for an outdoorsy trip.

Getting ready

Part of every camping journey is spending time to get one’s gear ready—and the vehicle that will take the campers to the destination is no exception.

According to Jaecoo Philippines, the J5 BEV is fitted with a 60.9-kilowatt-hour battery with an estimated range of 402 kilometers. 

The automaker states that the said battery pack can be recharged from 30 percent to 80 percent in 28 minutes, noting that the same time can be likened to one’s “coffee break.” It also shared that the Jaecoo J5 BEV can be driven without having to wait for “a full charge before departure,” which makes it suitable for getting small charges when stopping at charging stations mid-journey. 

“When recharging stops costing time, you regain control of your journey,” the company wrote.

Further, the Jaecoo J5 BEV is equipped with a one-touch Eco Mode that intelligently optimizes energy consumption across city, highway, and varied terrains, achieving true “Enjoy Each Moment Outdoors.”

“For many EV (electric vehicle) users, the core concern is less about total range and more about confidence once the battery level dips,” the company wrote in a press release.

“The need for an impromptu recharge during the commute, worrying about charging time on weekend getaways, or having a journey interrupted by charging stops—these everyday moments chip away at the ease of electric mobility,” it added.

Making it to the campsite 

Having a battery with decent range and fast-charging properties isn’t enough. One needs the vehicle to actually have what it takes to get to a campsite.

That said, Jaecoo Philippines highlighted that the J5 BEV clears the ground by 174 millimeters (mm) and has a wading depth of 450 mm, allowing owners to cross grass, gravel, and shallow streams without a second thought. 

Letting natural light into the cabin is a panoramic sunroof that measures 1.45 square meters. For carrying luggage, the Jaecoo J5 BEV boasts a 480-liter (L) trunk augmented by 38 clever storage spaces for accommodating camping gear, sports equipment, and other daily items.

Further, it gets an “exclusive-in-class” 35 L washable front trunk that can be used for storing pet snacks and isolating odors, housing delicate items against bumps, or holding chilled drinks and water.

Enjoying the destination  

Aside from powering journeys, the Jaecoo J5 BEV aims to make every trip convenient for its occupants.

It is equipped with a “class-leading” 50-watt fast wireless charger for phones, which ensures that the driver and passengers never run out of power for navigation, photography, or livestreaming. It also boasts a prominent, “class-leading” 3.3-kilowatt vehicle-to-load external discharge function, enabling effortless outdoor power use—lighting up string lights in the evening, starting the coffee maker, or setting up the projector screen.

During breaks on the road, phones, cameras, and speakers can all be charged simultaneously, Jaecoo Philippines pointed out. 

“Activate the exclusive one-button camping mode, and power supply, energy consumption, and system settings automatically synchronize. Paired with native outdoor camping ecosystem products, everything from lighting and cooking to entertainment equipment can operate stably,” Jaecoo Philippines wrote.

“You don’t need to repeatedly calculate power distribution; just immerse yourself in the moment, leaving the power logistics to the vehicle,” it added. 

Price 

The Jaecoo J5 BEV will set back campers some P1.399 million.
