Marcos appoints ex-PNP chief Torre as new MMDA GM

MANILA: The Malacanang appointed General Nicolas Torre III as the new Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) general manager.

He replaced Procopio Lipana.

The said appointment was confirmed by the agency as it expressed its full support to the decision of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..

MMDA noted that the former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief's extensive experience in public service and law enforcement is expected to “further strengthen the organization’s mandate in traffic management and public safety, among others,” across the National Capital Region.

"Gen. Torre is a welcome addition to the MMDA family. I am sure he will be a big help to the agency," MMDA Chair Atty. Romando Artes was quoted as saying.

To recall, the Malacanang appointed Torre as PNP chief last May but was relieved a few months after reportedly "acting acting beyond his authority", according to Senator Panfilo Lacson. 

Further, the MMDA extended its sincere appreciation to Lipana “for his dedication and valuable contributions to MMDA for more than three years.”

“The MMDA remains committed to continuing its mission of ensuring safe, efficient, and orderly mobility and development in Metro Manila with the appointment of Gen. Torre,”the firm added.
